Maasin, 29.5 kilometers north-west of Iloilo City, is abundant with quality bamboo which Iloilo Kawayan Marketing or IKMar, converts to world class chopsticks, barbeque sticks, toothpicks and bamboo charcoal. The sanitized bamboo raw materials pass through the l

atest bamboo processing technology at the company’s plant where the well trained workers produce an average number of sticks per month to meet the supply requirements of the nation’s leading restaurants and department stores. Iloilo Kawayan Marketing is run by a well-knit organization that oversees the production and marketing operations of the company which sets its eye on opening more markets in the Philippines as well as abroad. With the local governments of Maasin and the province of Iloilo fully supporting the company’s venture, bamboo production in the municipality has increased, covering more hectares to accommodate the growing market for the bamboo products. Neighboring municipalities are likewise rowing bamboo, assuring a steady supply of raw materials. While IKMar presently markets chopsticks, toothpicks, barbeque sticks and charcoal, it is exploring other areas of bamboo handicraft production which, in time, may become part of its operations.
