DOST Fellowship night last Wednesday July 15

Happy to have spoken with DOST Secrerary Dr. Renato Solidum Jr. and Director Ramil Uy during the fellowship

DOST is the 2nd most trusted govt agency next to TESDA and our good working relationship with them have so far secured 5M Php in funding for projects that directly benefit the City of Maasin and the Maasinhon!

I am also joined by SLSU president Dr. Jude Duarte and Research Vice President Dr. Feances Sy who continue to support Maasin development all the way from Sogod. Also with me that night is CDRRM head Sir Raul Raul Ang Inocando Jr. who represented Mayor Luz Mercado

We are grateful for the hard work of DOST and SLSU in their contributions for the modernization of our city and look forward to matching their dedication to public service with our own!

SALAMAT DOST! SALAMAT SLSU!

Happy to welcome Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Region VIII Assistant Regional Director Atty. Lovely Mei R. Dela Cruz on her official courtesy visit to Maasin City to discuss future collaborative opportunities aimed at boosting the local tech community.

DICT Southern Leyte Provincial Officer Marian C. Go-Soco and graduates of the SPARK Virtual Assistant (VA) training program were also present during the visit.

I am happy to be in a dialogue with them on exploring potential plans and frameworks to support and empower the city's growing freelance industry, showcasing the SPARK VA graduates as a prime example of the city's ready tech talent.

As these initiatives take shape, the collaborative effort is also intended to tap the support of the relevant stakeholders to scale up local skills development.
Abante, Maasin City! Our future is bright!

Maasin City continues to move forward in our digital transformation journey through our partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region VIII under the project, “Provision of S&T Assistance in Developing E-Governance Capabilities of Selected Barangays in Maasin City.”

Earlier this week, we officially turned over five satellite communication units to the BFP, PNP, and three offices of the City Government of Maasin, supported by the DOST Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO) Southern Leyte. These units come with a fully funded 10-month subscription to ensure stable, reliable, and uninterrupted communication from day one.

This initiative strengthens our capacity in public safety, disaster response, and efficient local governance.

In celebration of International Women’s Day, I joined the Project Ajunay Kabayi-Bayunan in Brgy. Bilibol as their officers took their oath, marking a strong commitment to this empowering movement and initiative dedicated to protecting Maasin City’s coastal biodiversity through mangrove planting and environmental stewardship. I was joined by SP Member Hon. Mikee Mercado, Vice Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture and Fisheries, in showing our support for this meaningful effort.

Yesterday I was able to attend 2 lectures at Sogod and Bontoc SLSU campuses from visiting Aqua Industry expert Mr. Zambrano! Thank you SLSU and DOST for the opportunity to learn! We were able to inspect DOST backed pilot projects based in Liloan that we are currently preparing to bring to our coastal communities in Maasin City!

Yesterday I convened a meeting between DepEp represented by Superintendent Sir Genis Murallos, Brgy Sto. Rosario council headed by Kap. Alinabon and Maasin city LGU Law office headed by Atty. Brenjun Calapre

We are happy to report that we now have a clear plan for a pathway that will serve Purok 1 Brgy. Sto. Rosario.

The problem preventing this construction is based on the ownership of the lot but with the cooperation of Maasin city LGU, DepEd and Brgy. Sto. Rosario, we are committed to realizing this long time dream of Brgy. Sto. Rosario Purok 1 residents!

Updates to follow.

Starting the new year by sharing my gratitude to SOLECO GM Chelito Ogdoc for beginning the installation of new electricity posts for purok I and purok III of Brgy. Cabulihan! Thank you, GM Ogdoc and Brgy. Cabulihan council led by Kap. Labado for your cooperation and teamwork!

Attended DOST meeting right after to discuss the coming visit of DOST SEC and USEC! Maasin city is currently a 3rd class smart city thanks to the collective efforts of Maasin LGU admin meaning more projects and developments are on the way for the Maasinhon!

Merry Christmas!

I was invited by Maam Teza Ramos to attend the Bilibol Mangrove Association Christmas party yesterday!

This community is responsible for planting hundreds if not, thousands of mangroves that grow to protect present and future generations of Maasinhons from typhoons. Lets show them our appreciation and greet them a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Salamat Mayor Luz Mercado and Maam Teza Ramos for the gift packs and support towards this underappreciated community. Thank you, Bilibol Mangroveers !

Yesterday, I attended DOST quarterly meeting on behalf of Maasin City LGU and am excited with the new initiatives to be introduced to Maasin City for year 2026!

As vice chair of city agriculture, I am looking forward to improving squash production to meet the demand of Pannys bakeshop for their nutribun project and improving TESDA employment schemes for workers.

Also attended the 100th birthday party or Nanay 'Olim' Serdan of Brgy. Panan-awan! The city, province and national will be awarding cash to Lola Olim for reaching her centennial birthday as per the Expanded Centennial Act (RA 11982)! Thank you Kap Macalinao for the invitation :)
