PNP ORDERS FAIR PROBE INTO BALIWAG INCIDENT; THREE POLICE OFFICERS UNDER INVESTIGATION
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has taken immediate action following a reported incident in Baliwag City, Bulacan, that allegedly involved five individuals, including three police personnel, reaffirming its commitment to accountability and due process.
Based on the initial investigation, the incident occurred on July 16, 2026, when a 33-year-old businessman reported an encounter with several individuals who identified themselves as police officers. The complainant alleged that he was mistakenly identified during the incident before the group left the area.
As of July 17, three police personnel voluntarily surrendered and are now under police custody while the investigation is underway. Their issued fi****ms have been secured in accordance with standard procedures. Meanwhile, two other individuals allegedly involved remain at large and are the subject of ongoing law enforcement operations.
Appropriate charges for physical injury, unjust vexation, grave coercion, and slander by deed are being prepared for filing through inquest proceedings, subject to the available evidence and applicable legal procedures.
PNP Chief, Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., said the organization remains committed to ensuring that the matter is handled fairly and without delay.
"Hindi natin palalampasin ang anumang insidente na nangangailangan ng agarang aksyon. Sisiguraduhin nating maayos ang imbestigasyon at pananagutin ang sinumang mapatutunayang lumabag sa batas. Kasabay nito, igagalang din natin ang karapatan ng lahat ng sangkot habang isinasagawa ang legal na proseso," PGen Nartatez said.
He added, "Public trust is built through transparency and accountability. We will continue to act decisively while ensuring that every investigation is conducted fairly and in accordance with the law."
The PNP said the prompt action taken reflects its continuing efforts under the PNP Focused Agenda, particularly Enhanced Managing Police Operations, which strengthens operational discipline, accountability, and lawful police practices in support of the good governance agenda of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
The PNP assured the public that the investigation will proceed impartially and in accordance with existing laws and procedures as it continues to advance Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat, at Nararamdaman.
