READ | Consumer Price Index for the Bottom 30% Income Households (2018=100): May 2026

The country’s inflation rate for households in the bottom 30% of the income distribution decelerated to 8.4% in May 2026, from 8.5% in April 2026.

Food inflation for the bottom 30% of income households at the national level recorded a year-on-year growth rate of 8.9% in May 2026, up from 8.6% in the previous month. In May 2025, it recorded a 2.0% annual decrease.

Inflation for the bottom 30% of income households in the National Capital Region (NCR) slowed down to 5.0% in May 2026, from 5.2% in April 2026.

Inflation for the bottom 30% of income households in areas outside NCR was observed at 8.5% in May 2026, the same annual rate recorded in April 2026.

READ | Seasonally Adjusted Consumer Price Index (2018=100): May 2026

At the national level, the seasonally adjusted Consumer Price Index (CPI) for all items exhibited a month-on-month decline of 0.6% in May 2026, from 3.0% in April 2026.

In the National Capital Region (NCR), seasonally adjusted CPI for all items likewise recorded a month-on-month decline of 0.7% in May 2026, from 2.2% in the previous month.

Areas outside NCR also exhibited a monthly decline of 0.5% in May 2026, from 3.1% in April 2026.

The main contributors to the overall inflation in May 2026 were:

🍽️ Food and non-alcoholic beverages - 32.7%
🏠 Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels - 24.0%
🚍 Transport - 21.9%

Meanwhile, core inflation, which excludes selected food and energy items, accelerated to 4.1% in May 2026 from 3.9% in April 2026.
