Coordination Meeting for the Actual Waste Analysis and Characterization Study (WACS)

In line with our commitment to progressive and data-driven environmental governance, the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), under the leadership of Mr. Dave Baquiro Singcol, MENRO Designate, successfully spearheaded a crucial Coordination Meeting today.
The assembly brought together key institutional stakeholders, including our Barangay Captains, local business establishment owners, and elementary and secondary school heads and administrators. The primary objective of the meeting was to establish a comprehensive framework and ensure operational alignment for the upcoming implementation of the Actual Waste Analysis and Characterization Study (WACS).

Conducting the WACS is a vital scientific endeavor that allows the municipality to accurately evaluate the volume and types of waste generated across various sectors. The data gathered will serve as the foundational blueprint for designing more efficient, long-term ecological solid waste management programs, localized recycling policies, and sustainable environmental strategies.

🌍🌿 BARANGAYS OF LEYTE UNITE FOR WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2026 🌿🌍

As part of the celebration of World Environment Day 2026, the barangays of the Municipality of Leyte, this is an initiative of the Municipal Environment & Natural Resources Office (MENRO) to let every Barangay actively participate in the simultaneous community clean-up drive and environmental awareness campaign, demonstrating their commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development.

Led by their respective Barangay Officials, Barangay Environmental Committees, volunteers, youth organizations, and residents, the activity brought together members of the community in a shared effort to clean roadsides, waterways, public spaces, and other common areas. This collective action highlights the important role of every barangay in maintaining a clean, healthy, and resilient environment.

The activity serves as a reminder that environmental conservation starts within our communities. Through proper waste segregation, responsible disposal of garbage, reduction of plastic waste, and active participation in environmental programs, every household can contribute to the protection of our natural resources and the preservation of a safe and sustainable environment for future generations.

🌍🌱LGU LEYTE JOINS THE CELEBRATION OF WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2026🌱🌍

In solidarity with the global observance of World Environment Day 2026, the Local Government Unit of Leyte, under the dynamic leadership of Mayor Engr. Jed C. Granados, and through the initiative of the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), successfully conducted a One-Hour Simultaneous Clean-Up Drive in various areas of the municipality. This activity served as a strong manifestation of the local government's commitment to environmental protection, proper waste management, and the promotion of a cleaner and healthier community.

The activity brought together various sectors of society, demonstrating that environmental conservation is a shared responsibility that requires collective action and cooperation. Participating in the clean-up drive were personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), dedicated LGU employees, and partners from the education sector from Leyte National High School, Leyte- Agro Industrial School and School Heads and Teachers from Leyte 1 District, and to the Barangay Council of Barangay Poblacion who willingly devoted their time and effort for the success of the activity.

The clean-up drive was not only an effort to collect and properly dispose of waste but also an opportunity to raise awareness on the importance of environmental responsibility, waste segregation, pollution prevention, and sustainable practices. Through activities like this, we are reminded that every individual action, no matter how small, contributes to the protection and preservation of our natural resources.

As we celebrate World Environment Day, let us continue to strengthen our commitment to caring for the environment by practicing proper solid waste management, reducing plastic use, participating in community clean-up activities, planting and nurturing trees, and supporting programs that promote environmental sustainability. 🌿📢 Environmental Awareness and IEC Campaign at Brgy. Ugbon 🌿📢

The Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), in partnership with PSFI and DENR Region VIII, successfully conducted an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) Campaign on Environmental Awareness with the active participation of the Ugbon Farmers Association in Brgy. Ugbon.

The activity aimed to strengthen community awareness on environmental protection, sustainable natural resource management, proper waste management, climate change adaptation, and the importance of collective action in preserving our environment for future generations.

We extend our sincere appreciation to PSFI, DENR Region VIII, the Barangay Local Government Unit of Ugbon, and the members of the Ugbon Farmers Association for their support and active participation in making this activity meaningful and successful.

🍃🌏 MENRO Conducts Environmental IEC Campaign During Leyte II District Convergence🌏🍃

The Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) successfully conducted an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) Campaign during the Leyte II District Convergence to promote environmental awareness and strengthen community participation in environmental protection and conservation.

The campaign covered various environmental concerns, including proper solid waste management, waste segregation at source, the No Segregation, No Collection Policy, anti-open burning regulations, climate change adaptation and mitigation, biodiversity conservation, pollution prevention, and compliance with environmental laws and local ordinances.

Through this activity, MENRO continues to empower stakeholders with the knowledge and responsibility needed to help build cleaner, greener, and more sustainable communities.

MENRO TURNS OVER RESCUED WHITE SEA EAGLE TO DENR-CENRO ORMOC

Today, the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) successfully turned over the rescued White Sea Eagle to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources - DENR-CENRO Ormoc for proper care, assessment, and rehabilitation.

The turnover activity was conducted at the DENR-CENRO Ormoc Office and was formally transferred by the MENRO Mr. Dave Baquiro Singcol and received by Wildlife Focal Person Mr. Daryll De Guzman.

The White Sea Eagle was earlier rescued through the immediate coordination of concerned residents, barangay officials, MENRO, and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO). Initial first aid and safety measures were provided to ensure the eagle’s condition prior to transport and turnover.

This action highlights the commitment of the Local Government Unit and DENR in protecting wildlife and conserving endangered species pursuant to Republic Act No. 9147, which safeguards the country’s wildlife resources and their habitats.

The public is encouraged to continue reporting wildlife sightings and incidents to proper authorities to ensure the protection and preservation of our rich biodiversity.
