“BASYANG” IS NOW OVER BOHOL SEA AND HEADING TOWARDS CENTRAL VISAYAS.
Location of Center (7:00 AM):
The center of Tropical Storm BASYANG was estimated based on all available data over the coastal waters of Malimono, Surigao del Norte (9.4°N, 125.5°E).
Intensity:
Maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 90 km/h, and central pressure of 1000 hPa
Present Movement:
West northwestward at 20 km/h
Extent of Tropical Cyclone Winds:
Strong to gale-force winds extend outwards up to 330 km from the center

Severe Winds
The wind signals warn the public of the general wind threat over an area due to the tropical cyclone. Local winds may be slightly stronger/enhanced in coastal and upland/mountainous areas exposed to winds. Winds are less strong in areas sheltered from the prevailing wind direction.
• Minimal to minor impacts from strong winds are possible within any of the areas under Wind Signal No. 1.
• Minor to moderate impacts from gale-force winds are possible within any of the areas under Wind Signal No. 2.
The surge of the Northeast Monsoon will also bring strong to gale-force gusts over the following areas (especially in coastal and upland areas exposed to winds):
• Today: Batanes, Babuyan Islands, northern portion of mainland Cagayan, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Bicol Region, most of MIMAROPA, Visayas, Dinagat Islands, Siargao and Bucas Grande Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Agusan Del Norte, Misamis Oriental, Lanao Del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Bukidnon, Misamis Occidental, Zamboanga Peninsula, Sarangani, Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, and Davao Oriental.
• Tomorrow (07 February): Most of Luzon, Western Visayas, most of Negros Island Region, and Zamboanga del Norte.
• Sunday (08 February): Most of Luzon
Coastal Flooding
There is a minimal to moderate risk of storm surge with peak heights reaching up to 2.0 m within the next 48 hours over the low-lying or exposed coastal communities of Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Cuyo Islands, Antique, Aklan, Capiz, Iloilo, Guimaras, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Siquijor, Cebu, Bohol, Southern Leyte, Leyte, Camiguin, Agusan del Norte, Misamis Oriental, Lanao del Norte, and Misamis Occidental. HAZARDS AFFECTING COASTAL WATERS
A Gale Warning is in effect over the eastern and central seaboards of Visayas and the northern and eastern seaboards of Mindanao. Refer to Gale Warning No. 6 issued at 5:00 AM today.

24-Hour Sea Condition Outlook
Up to very rough seas over the following coastal waters:
• Up to 5.0 m: The seaboards of Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Siargao-Bucas Grande Islands, and Dinagat Islands.
• Up to 4.5 m: The eastern seaboards of Northern Samar, Eastern Samar; the seaboards of Agusan del Norte, Camiguin, Siguijor, Misamis Oriental, and Misamis Occidental; the northern seaboard of Lanao del Norte; the southern seaboards of Southern Leyte, Bohol, Cebu, Negros Oriental, and Negros Occidental.
• Sea travel is risky for all types or tonnage of vessels. All mariners must remain in port or, if underway, seek shelter or safe harbor as soon as possible until winds and waves subside.
Up to rough seas over the following coastal waters:
• Up to 4.0 m: The eastern seaboards of Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, and Davao Oriental; the northern seaboard of Northern Samar; the remaining seaboard of Eastern Samar.
• Up to 3.5 m: The northern seaboards of Camarines Sur and Catanduanes; the seaboard of northern Zamboanga del Norte; the southern seaboards of Antique, Iloilo, Bohol and Guimaras; the remaining seaboards of Bohol and Lanao del Norte.
• Up to 3.0 m: The seaboards of Aurora and northern Quezon; the northern and eastern seaboards of Polillo Islands; the northern seaboard of Camarines Norte.
• Mariners of small seacrafts, including all types of motorbancas, are advised not to venture out to sea under these conditions, especially if inexperienced or operating ill-equipped vessels.
Up to moderate seas over the following coastal waters:
• Up to 2.5 m: The eastern seaboard of Babuyan Islands; the seaboards of Leyte; the eastern seaboard of mainland Cagayan; the remaining seaboards of Southern Leyte, Cebu, Bohol, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, and Zamboanga del Norte.
• Up to 2.0 m: The seaboards of Palawan and Sarangani; the seaboard of western Zamboanga del Norte; the southern seaboards of Occidental Mindoro and Oriental Mindoro; the remaining seaboards of Babuyan Islands, Batanes, Quezon, Bicol Region, and Western Visayas.
• Mariners of motorbancas and similarly sized vessels are advised to take precautionary measures while venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigation under these conditions.
Other coastal waters have forecast wave heights of less than 2.0 m.
TRACK AND INTENSITY OUTLOOK
• It must be emphasized that heavy rainfall and severe winds may still be experienced in localities outside the landfall point and the forecast confidence cone. Refer to “Other Hazards affecting Land Areas” for more details. Furthermore, the track may still shift within the limit of the forecast confidence cone.
• BASYANG will move generally west northwestward throughout the forecast period. On the forecast track, the center of BASYANG may pass close or make landfall over Bohol and southern portions of Cebu and Negros Oriental. Afterwards, it will emerge over Sulu Sea, pass close to Cuyo Islands, and cross the northern portion of Palawan.
• BASYANG will likely remain a tropical storm while traversing the Central Visayas and Negros Island Region. Further weakening into a tropical depression is possible tonight or tomorrow morning and will be downgraded into a low pressure area by Sunday (08 February) morning.
Considering these developments, the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to take all necessary measures to protect life and property. Persons living in areas identified to be highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards are advised to follow evacuation and other instructions from local officials. For heavy rainfall warnings, thunderstorm/rainfall advisories, and other severe weather information specific to your area, please monitor products issued by your local PAGASA Regional Services Division.
