The Coast Guard Station Sultan Kudarat (CGS SULKUD) together with Coast Guard Sub-Station Lebak Coast Guard Sub-Station Palimbang Coast Guard Sub-Station Kalamansig and Coast Guard Sub-Station San Roque completes the Two-Day Oil Spill Awareness and Response Training conducted by the Marine Environmental Protection Group - Southern Mindanao (MEPG-SM) at CGS SULKUD, Brgy. Tibpuan, Lebak, Sultan Kudarat on May 12-13, 2026.
The training program, designed to enhance the readiness and competence of Coast Guard personnel in managing oil spill incidents, covered critical topics including oil spill prevention protocols, environmental impact assessment, containment and recovery techniques, and interagency coordination procedures. The MEPG-SM delivered comprehensive instruction tailored to the maritime challenges and coastal vulnerabilities, equipping participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to respond swiftly and effectively to oil spill emergencies that may threaten the provincial waters and communities.
The completion of this training underscores CGS SULKUD's commitment to environmental stewardship and maritime safety in support of the Coast Guard's broader mission to protect the nation's marine resources. The trained personnel are now better positioned to implement preventive measures, coordinate rapid response operations, and minimize environmental damage in the event of oil spill incidents. This initiative reinforces the Coast Guard's dedication to safeguarding the province's critical marine ecosystems.
The training was attended by participants representing various agencies and organizations critical to the nation's environmental response framework. Attendees included personnel from the Lebak Municipal Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council, Menro Lebak, Lebak Tourism , Municipal Planning and Development Office - MPDO Lebak, Mdrrmo Lebak, BLGU Tibpuan and the local fisherfolks. This diverse participation facilitated knowledge-sharing and strengthened collaborative networks essential for coordinated oil spill response operations across the province.
