CEBU BUY-BUST OPERATION NETS PHP5.3-M WORTH OF LAPTOPS; TWO SUSPECTS NABBED

The Philippine National Police (PNP), through coordinated efforts of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Mandaue City Field Unit, CIDG Regional Field Unit 7, and Regional Intelligence Unit 7 under the Intelligence Group, successfully conducted an anti-illegal trade operation in Barangay Santo Niño, Cebu City on May 19, 2026.

The operation, carried out along Plaridel Street inside a commercial building, led to the arrest of two individuals following a buy-bust operation involving alleged violations of Republic Act No. 7394, or the Consumer Act of the Philippines. Authorities recovered and confiscated approximately 207 assorted units of laptops with an estimated market value of PHP 5.3 million.

The suspects are currently under the custody of CIDG Mandaue CFU for proper documentation and disposition. No further details are being released while investigation and case build-up are ongoing.

PNP Chief, Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., said the accomplishment reflects the organization’s continued commitment to protect consumers and ensure that trade and commerce remain lawful and transparent.

“Patuloy nating paiigtingin ang mga operasyon na naglalayong protektahan ang publiko at tiyakin na ang mga transaksyon sa merkado ay naaayon sa batas,” PGen Nartatez said.

This operation is in line with the PNP Focused Agenda on Enhanced Managing Police Operations, reinforcing coordinated intelligence-driven actions across units, and supports the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to strengthen consumer protection and maintain public order through lawful enforcement.

PULIS SA SAMAR, NAGHATID NG PAG-ASA SA BIKTIMA NG KARAHASAN

Nagpakita ng malasakit at pagkakaisa ang mga miyembro ng Public Safety Basic Recruit Course (PSBRC) Class 2006-03 “PAGLAUM” na naka-assign sa Northern Samar matapos silang magsagawa ng outreach activity para sa isang survivor ng sexual abuse sa bayan ng Pambujan, Northern Samar.

Bilang bahagi ng pagdiriwang ng kanilang ika-20 anibersaryo sa serbisyo, nagbigay ang grupo ng grocery assistance at livelihood support sa biktima at sa kanyang pamilya upang makatulong sa kanilang unti-unting pagbangon matapos ang pinagdaanang trauma.

Ang biktima ay kabilang sa insidenteng kinasangkutan ng dalawang tumakas na preso mula sa Provincial Jail noong 2025. Kasalukuyang nakabinbin sa korte ang kasong r**e laban sa mga suspek.

Ayon kay PNP Chief, Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., mahalagang maipadama ng mga pulis hindi lamang ang pagpapatupad ng batas kundi maging ang tunay na malasakit sa komunidad.

“Hindi lamang po trabaho ng pulis ang hulihin ang mga lumalabag sa batas. Mahalaga rin na maramdaman ng ating mga kababayan na may malasakit at handang umalalay sa panahon ng kanilang pagbangon. Ang ganitong mga simpleng pagkilos ay may malaking epekto sa pagpapalakas ng tiwala at pag-asa ng ating mamamayan,” ani Gen. Nartatez.

Pinuri rin ng Pambansang Pulisya ang ipinakitang pagkakaisa at malasakit ng Class PAGLAUM, na anila’y patunay na nananatiling buhay ang diwa ng serbisyo publiko at pagmamalasakit kahit makalipas ang dalawang dekada sa hanay ng kapulisan.

CIDG’s FIGHT AGAINST ILLEGAL CI******ES YIELDS 2 SUSPECTS & PHP 5.1 MILLION EVIDENCE IN LAGUNA

In compliance with the high-level directives of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. through the DILG Secretary Juanito Victor “Jonvic” C. Remulla, and Chief of Philippine National Police, Police General Jose Melencio C Nartatez Jr. to intensify the government’s crackdown on illicit ci******es, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) conducted enhanced law enforcement operations nationwide.

On May 18, 2026 at around 8:40 PM to 10:20 PM, the CIDG Laguna Provincial Field Unit in coordination with territorial police units conducted a law enforcement operation against illicit ci******es- violation of Republic Act No. 10643 or “Graphic Health Warnings Law” and Republic Act No. 9211 “Tobacco Regulation Act of 2003” in Brgy. Canlubang, Calamba City, Laguna that resulted in the arrest of two male suspects, and confiscation of 79 master cases of ci******es with an estimated value of PhP 5,135,000.00.

A report that reached PMGEN Robert AA Morico II, the Director of CIDG, stated that the arrested suspects “Jon” and “Cris” both male, of legal age, residents of Brgy. Tulos, Rosario, Batangas were caught while in possession, control and transporting of the ci******es which do not have the required graphic health warnings.

The CIDG Director emphasized that under Republic Act No. 10643 or “Graphic Health Warnings Law”, the State protects and promotes the right to health of the people and instill health consciousness among them; and protects consumers from trade malpractices and from substandard to***co products. Likewise, Republic Act No. 9211 or “Tobacco Regulation Act of 2003” provides a balanced policy to regulate the packaging, use, sale, and distribution of to***co products. Its primary purpose is to protect public health, inform citizens of the risks of smoking, and safeguard the youth while ensuring the livelihood of to***co stakeholders.

The CIDG leadership commends PCOL Ganaban C Ali, the Regional Chief of the CIDG Regional Field Unit 4A, and the CIDG Laguna Provincial Field Unit led by PLTCOL Victor M Sobrepeña, for the confiscation of huge quantity of alleged illicit ci******es and apprehension of violators of law. The confiscation significantly preempts the proliferation, sell and consumption of the alleged substandard to***co products- thus, possible health hazards are prevented.

The CIDG assures the public that the Group is resolute in enforcing all the laws and unrelenting in curbing all illegal activities and violations of law - across the country. The CIDG urges the public to report all smuggled and illicit to***co products and suspicious manufacturing facilities in their localities, and the CIDG will take it from there.

PNP COMPLETES PROBE, TURNS OVER EVIDENCE ON SENATE INCIDENT TO DOJ

The Philippine National Police (PNP), under the leadership of PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., formally presented and turned over the complete results of its investigation, along with all gathered evidence, to the Department of Justice (DOJ) during a press briefing held at Malacañang on Tuesday afternoon, May 19, 2026, in relation to the alleged shooting incident at the Senate building on May 13, 2026.

During the briefing, SILG Juanito Victor C. Remulla and the PNP Chief jointly discussed the findings of the composite investigation team tasked to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and establish a clearer sequence of events through evidence-based investigation.

Authorities presented CCTV footage and several videos obtained from various sources, including media practitioners, individuals present during the incident, and bystanders who were taking photographs and conducting live coverage while the situation was unfolding. Investigators explained that these materials were carefully reviewed, validated, and synchronized to reconstruct the timeline of events from different perspectives.

The PNP emphasized that the investigation remains focused on facts, digital evidence, and verified accounts to ensure a fair, objective, and professional assessment of the incident. According to PGen Nartatez, investigators exerted efforts to gather all available materials that could help provide clarity on the circumstances surrounding the incident through due process.

He likewise confirmed that the PNP has already completed its mandate in the fact-finding stage and has officially transmitted all documentary and digital evidence to the DOJ for further appreciation and legal determination.

“I have already submitted the pieces of evidence, still photographs as well as videos, and it will be on the appreciation of our beloved Secretary of Justice and the committee to conclude on kung ano ang mangyari,” the Chief PNP said during the briefing.

The PNP reiterated its appeal to the public to refrain from speculation and to allow the justice system to take its proper course, stressing that all investigative findings now rest with the DOJ for appropriate legal action.

PNP SEIZES OVER PHP2.2M WORTH OF ILLICIT CI******ES IN TARLAC OPERATIONS

The Philippine National Police (PNP) under the leadership of PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr, reported the confiscation of PhP2.2 million worth of illicit cigarette products in operation conducted in Tarlac City on May 18, 2026.

According to report, authorities recovered counterfeit to***co products following a vehicular incident along MacArthur Highway in Barangay Sepung Calzada. During the inspection conducted after the collision, responding personnel discovered 45 boxes of ci******es allegedly lacking the required BIR tax stamps, with an estimated value of PhP2.2 million. The items were voluntarily surrendered to authorities and brought to Tarlac City Police Station for documentation and proper handling.

PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. commended the operating units for their prompt and lawful actions, emphasizing the importance of sustained coordination among law enforcement agencies in protecting the country’s economy and ensuring fair business practices.

“Patuloy nating paiigtingin ang ating kampanya laban sa smuggling at iba pang ilegal na gawain na nakaaapekto sa kabuhayan ng ating mga mamamayan at sa koleksyon ng pamahalaan. Ang mga operasyon na ito ay patunay na alerto ang ating kapulisan sa pagpapatupad ng batas habang iginagalang ang karapatan ng lahat,” PGen Nartatez said.

He added, “Bahagi ito ng mas malawak na layunin na mapanatili ang kaayusan, protektahan ang lehitimong negosyo, at suportahan ang mga programa ng ating pamahalaan para sa mas matatag na ekonomiya.”

BAGONG SILANG NA SANGGOL, NASAGIP NG KAPULISAN SA TACLOBAN CITY

Mula sa isang paper bag sa loob ng nakaparadang multicab, isang bagong silang na sanggol ang nabigyan ng panibagong pagkakataon sa buhay matapos agad na rumesponde ang kapulisan sa Tacloban City noong gabi ng Mayo 12, 2026.

Sa ilalim ng pamumuno ni PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., muling ipinakita ng Philippine National Police ang kahalagahan ng mabilis na pag-aksyon at malasakit sa komunidad nang ligtas na marescue ng Police Regional Office 8 (PRO 😎 ang isang inabandonang sanggol sa Sta. Elena, Tacloban City.

Ayon sa ulat, dakong alas-10:32 ng gabi nang makadiskubre ang isang concerned citizen ng sanggol na nakalagay sa loob ng paper bag na iniwan sa isang nakaparadang multicab sa labas ng kanilang bahay. Agad itong ini-report sa mga awtoridad na naging daan upang makarating kaagad sa lugar ang mga miyembro ng City Mobile Force Company (CMFC) at Police Station 3 ng Tacloban City Police Office.

Sa pagdating ng mga pulis, agad nilang siniguro ang kaligtasan ng sanggol at isinagawa ang kinakailangang pagresponde upang mabigyan ito ng agarang atensyon. Kasunod nito, nakipag-ugnayan ang Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) sa City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) at Tacloban Rescue Unit (TACRU) para sa wastong pangangalaga at medikal na pagsusuri sa sanggol.

Batay sa paunang assessment, hindi pa napuputol ang pusod ng sanggol at may bakas pa ng tuyong dugo sa buhok nito, indikasyong ito ay kasisilang pa lamang bago iniwan sa naturang lugar.

“This rescue reflects the importance of community vigilance and immediate police response. Every child deserves protection and care,” ani PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. “Malaking bagay ang malasakit ng mamamayan na agad nagbigay ng impormasyon sa pulisya upang mailigtas ang sanggol.”

Ipinakita rin ng insidenteng ito ang patuloy na pagpapatibay ng PNP sa mas makatao at mas malapit na ugnayan sa komunidad sa ilalim ng PNP Focused Agenda—isang gabay tungo sa mas maayos at mas responsive na serbisyo-pulisya. Sa pamamagitan ng Enhanced Managing Police Operations at Active Community Support, mas napapalawak ang kakayahan ng kapulisan na makaresponde agad sa mga sitwasyong nangangailangan ng agarang aksyon at malasakit sa mamamayan.

Habang nagpapatuloy ang imbestigasyon upang matukoy kung sino ang nag-iwan sa sanggol, tiniyak ng PRO 8 na mananatiling prayoridad ang kaligtasan at kapakanan ng bata habang ito ay nasa pangangalaga ng mga kinauukulang ahensya.

Sinabi ng Department of Agriculture (DA) na handa itong agad na ipatupad ang executive order ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. na nagtatakda ng price ceiling sa imported rice, bilang hakbang upang maibsan ang epekto ng tumataas na presyo ng pagkain dulot ng inflationary pressures ng sigalot sa Middle East.

Sa ilalim ng Executive Order No. 118, itinakda ang P50/kilo cap para sa 5% broken imported rice hanggang 30 na araw “upang tugunan ang hindi makatarungang pagtaas ng presyo, maiwasan ang pang-aabuso sa merkado, at matiyak ang sapat na suplay ng abot-kayang bigas habang pinananatili ang katatagan ng merkado.” Agad itong magkakabisa sa oras na mailathala sa Official Gazette o sa isang pahayagang may malawak na sirkulasyon.
