The Municipality of Laoang, Northern Samar proudly brought the story of the Laoanganong Kabataan to the national stage as it was conferred as a National Finalist in three major categories during the recently concluded Philippine SK Awards 2026 held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City.
Laoang was recognized as a National Finalist for Outstanding Local Youth Development Officer (LYDO) โ Philippines Component City and Municipality Category, represented by LYDO Morisson S. Tenedero and LYDO Assistant Lazaro Cerbito.
The Laoang Pederasyon ng Sangguniang Kabataan also earned a National Finalist recognition for the Outstanding SK Pederasyon Category, represented by PPSK President Elecia Ros Quitorio and PPSK Officers Kristine Joy Batulat and Remark Lagrimas.
Adding to Laoang's national recognition, the municipality was likewise named a National Finalist under the Best SK Project Category "Kabataan Agri-Business Enterprise", showcasing the innovative and impactful initiatives being implemented by the youth sector in the community.
The delegation was accompanied by Municipal Mayor Charlene L. Ongchuan, whose presence underscored the Local Government Unit's continuing support for youth leadership, participation, and development.
The national recognition marks another significant milestone for Laoang's youth development efforts. More than the distinction itself, the achievement provides a platform for the municipality to share with the country the stories, initiatives, and collective efforts of the .
Coming from an island municipality in Northern Samar, Laoang's presence among the country's outstanding youth development initiatives demonstrates that meaningful youth participation and innovative local governance can thrive regardless of geography.
The Philippine SK Awards 2026 served as an opportunity not only to celebrate excellence in youth governance but also to build connections, exchange good practices, and inspire local governments and youth leaders to continue creating meaningful spaces and opportunities for the next generation.
For Laoang, being named among the country's National Finalists is already a featโa testament to the collective work of its youth leaders, SK officials, youth organizations, local government officials, partners, and the entire Laoanganong Kabataan community.
