BIS breaks ground for Project BOOK-IT-KITAN
Laoag City, December 17, 2025 — Balatong Integrated School formally launched Project Book-it-kitan through a Groundbreaking Ceremony held today, marking the beginning of a project that aims to establish a Reading Hub for readers and learners. The activity was attended by Dr. Lourdes B. Arucan, Chief Supervisor of the Curriculum Implementation Division, together with Mr. Jasper Domingcil, EPS in Learning Resources, Mr. Marju Miguel, EPS in TLE, and Ma’am Imelda Fatima Hernaez, all showing strong support for the promotion of reading and literacy.
Also present during the ceremony were Mr. Kevin Caesar Simon, BIS Alumni President; members of the Barangay Council of Brgy. 40 Balatong led by Brgy. Captain Engr. Joseph T. Bitagon; and Mr. Jessie Allado, Barangay Councilor and Education Committee in-charge of Brgy. 41 Balacad. The event was further graced by Architect Jasper Bonnao, the mind behind the design of the Project BOOK-IT-KITAN, Reading Hub, and Hon. Michael Christophe R. Agustin, President of PPSK Laoag City, along with school partners and stakeholders who continue to support programs that promote reading.
In his Opening Remarks, Mr. Jerrimie Arrieta highlighted the importance of providing learners with a safe, accessible, and inspiring space for reading and learning. He emphasized that Project Book-it-kitan is more than a physical structure, as it represents the collective effort of the school and the community to nurture young minds, develop lifelong readers, and strengthen support for quality education.
The ceremony was followed by a Dinner for a Cause, which aimed to raise funds for the implementation of Project BOOK-IT-KITAN. The fundraising activity was attended by stakeholders, parents, and barangay officials from the catchment barangays of Balatong Integrated School. At the end of the event, Teacher Fellow Monica Paypa delivered the words of gratitude, thanking everyone for their presence, generosity, and shared commitment to making the Reading Hub a meaningful and lasting project for the learners.
