Ilocos Norte, Philippines โ January 23, 2026 โ The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Region I successfully conducted the Bayanihan SIM Distribution from January 20 to 24, providing free mobile data connectivity to students, teachers, and school communities in geographically isolated areas across Ilocos Norte.
The distribution covered several schools, namely Dilanis Elementary School, Ilocos Norte Agricultural College, Macupit Elementary School, Nambaran Elementary School, Pangil Elementary School, Parang Elementary School, Pulangi Elementary School, Pungto Elementary School, San Isidro Elementary School, Tabungao Elementary School, and Tubburan Integrated School, all located in different municipalities in the province. More than 2,500 students, faculty members, and teaching and non-teaching staff from these schools received the Bayanihan SIM cards, strengthening their access to digital learning tools and online services.
The activity forms part of the Bayanihan SIM Project, a nationwide initiative of the DICT aimed at bridging the digital divide by providing free SIM cards with mobile data to students, educators, and communities, particularly in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs). The project supports the vision of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. that no Filipino should be left offline, and reinforces the governmentโs commitment to inclusive digital access and digital transformation in education and public services.
In Ilocos Norte, the distribution was by DICT Region I, spearheaded by the Free WiFi team. The team personally visited the schools and conducted orientations to explain the objectives, benefits, and proper use of the Bayanihan SIM.
Through this initiative, learners and educators are expected to gain improved access to digital learning platforms, online educational resources, and essential communication tools, helping strengthen digital literacy and participation in the digital economy.
The Bayanihan SIM Distribution in Ilocos Norte highlights DICT Region Iโs continuing efforts to ensure that connectivity reaches even the most remote communities, supporting not only education but also long-term social and economic development in the region.
