Long before the coming of the Spaniards, there already existed an extensive region consisting of the present provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Abra and La Union renowned for its gold mines. On February 2, 1818, a Spanish Royal Decree was promulgated dividing the Province of Ilocos Norte from Ilocos Sur. Laoag City, which was then the biggest center of population, was made the capital of Iloco

s Norte. Ilocos Norte is located in the northwestern part of Luzon and is geographically situated between 170-43’ and 180-29’ north latitudes abd 1200-25’ and 1200-58’ east longitudes. It is bounded in the east by Cagayab and Apayao, in the southeast by Abra, in the south by Ilocos Sur and in the west by the South China Sea. Laoag City is the seat of the Provincial Government and is about 487 kilometers north-northwest of Manila. It is rugged and rocky and has mountains which run northwest in the Cordilleras in the east. There are 13 mountains in the area, most of which are located in the southeastern portion. Ilocos Norte has two (2) congressional districts comprising twenty-one (21) municipalities and two (2) component cities. The province has a total of five hundred fifty-seven (557) barangays. This is to include the eighty (80) barangays of Laoag City and the forty-three (43) barangays of Batac City.

The Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte encourages all real property owners to avail of the Tax Amnesty on Real Property Tax (Amilyar) under Republic Act No. 12001, the Real Property Valuation and Assessment Reform Act.

Settle unpaid real property taxes on or before July 5, 2026, to avail of the amnesty and avoid penalties, surcharges, and interest.

For inquiries, please visit the Provincial Treasury Office or your City or Municipal Treasury Office.

With the continued efforts of the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte led by our Governor Cecilia Araneta Marcos, the youth beneficiaries of the 20 DOLE-approved slots filled the venue and attended the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) Orientation held at the Provincial GSO Lobby last May 22, 2026.

The orientation, led by Ms. Leonavella Duldulao, Labor and Employment Officer III, officially prepares the chosen students and out-of-school youth for their 20 days of service, which is set to begin on June 2, 2026. This initiative is co-funded by PGIN (60%) and DOLE (40%).

Through this program, young Ilokanos are empowered with meaningful work experience and financial support to better prepare them for the future workforce.

On May 26, 2026, under Governor Cecilia Araneta Marcos' leadership, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte - Public Employment Service Office (PGIN-PESO) launched a joint initiative to uplift local enterprises and job seekers.

Vice Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc graced the event, delivering an inspiring message to the beneficiaries. His presence reinforced the provincial government's hands-on commitment to empowering local communities and fostering sustainable livelihood development.

By granting SEC registrations to 22 Sustainable Livelihood Program Associations (SLPAs) and distributing ₱7,000 each in pre-employment cash assistance to 36 ready-to-work job seekers, the program tackles financial security from both sides.
