The Department of Science and Technology โ Ifugao (DOST Ifugao) conducted a technical training on greenhouse management and fertigation systems today at iHub, DOST Ifugao Office, Nayon, Lamut, Ifugao. The training was facilitated by Dir. Gennie B. Soyon of the Climate Smart Agriculture Center and Cordillera Organic Research and Development Center of Benguet State University.
The training aimed to equip participants with practical knowledge and skills in greenhouse management and fertigation systems to improve crop productivity, resource efficiency, and product quality. It also sought to help participants better understand proper crop and greenhouse practices that support consistent and reliable production.
The office welcomed twenty-two participants from twelve firms across the province, most of whom are beneficiaries of the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) and other DOST programs.
โSmart agriculture is very important to prevent further soil degradation while optimizing crop yield in a given area, helping address zero hunger and mitigate the impacts of climate change,โ said Dir. Soyon when asked why smart agriculture is important in todayโs farming situation.
Engr. Don S. Ognayon, Supervising Science Research Specialist, expressed his hope that after the training, more firms in Ifugao will become interested in exploring hydroponics and smart agriculture. He also extended DOST Ifugaoโs gratitude to Dir. Soyon for the engaging discussion.
The training included discussions on essential plant nutrients, the importance of balanced and holistic plant care, and the chemistry of fertilizers and their effects on plant growth. The activity concluded with a question-and-answer session and a sharing of learnings among the participants.
