Alhamdulillah! Another blessing has come to Basilan’s education sector as the Department of Labor and Employment Region IX represented by Marlyn Anoos through the TUPAD program. This is spearheaded and an initiative of Hon. Congressman Yusop T. Alano allocates nearly ₱6 million in support of this year’s Brigada Eskwela. A total of 515 beneficiaries will receive allowances under the TUPAD- EASE Program of Basilan, empowering them to actively take part in preparing schools for the upcoming academic year.

These beneficiaries will serve as a brigade of helpers—repairing, painting, cleaning, and revitalizing classrooms and school grounds—ensuring that our learning spaces are safe, welcoming, and ready for our learners.

This meaningful partnership symbolizes transformation—like caterpillars preparing to take flight—reflecting our collective commitment to quality education. With unity and shared purpose, our schools will be ready to warmly welcome learners on June 28, the first day of classes.

Alhamdulillah!

We have successfully concluded our final meeting with Regional Director Riduan Hadjimuddin, CESO III, together with his team. With this, the IQRA and ASATIDZ programs are now officially sealed and ready to take off.

A new chapter begins—bringing hope, opportunity, and transformative learning for our learners in Basilan.

The Innovative Quality Reading and Arithmetic Program (IQRA) is currently being held through the 2-Day Capacity Building for IQRA Reading Tutors on May 4–5, 2026, at Abante Hall, Schools Division Office, Lamitan City, Basilan, under the theme “Strengthening Learners’ Reading, Literacy, and Numeracy Skills for Improved Academic Achievement.”

The program was formally opened by CID Chief, Hji. Delia A. Delia A Sandatan , followed by substantive learning sessions attended by 120 tutors from the 11 municipalities of Basilan. IQRA is a 20-day intensive intervention program aimed at enhancing the reading proficiency and arithmetic skills of identified Grade 2 Emerging-level learners within the 11 clusters of Basilan Division through focused tutoring and active parental engagement.

It also serves as a response to the MBHTE’s Bawat Bata sa Bangsamoro ay Bumabasa at Bumibilang 2.0 or 5Bs Program, strengthening the division’s commitment to improving foundational learning among young learners.

The ongoing capacity building will continue until tomorrow before the tutors’ official deployment, equipping them to deliver intensive reading and arithmetic sessions, provide structured learning support, strengthen parental involvement through Nanay, Tatay G**o, improve learners’ confidence, comprehension, and numeracy skills, and help reduce the number of frustration-level readers by the end of the program.

We extend our sincerest gratitude to our Schools Division Superintendent, Ma’am Myra Borja Mangkabung , EdD, CESE, for her invaluable guidance and continued support to this initiative.

This milestone marks a strong beginning in helping young learners establish better foundations in reading, literacy, and numeracy toward greater academic achievement.

Alhamdulillah! Blessings for Basilan Education

We are deeply privileged and grateful for the visit of Ronald U. Mendoza, Undersecretary from the Department of Education Central Office, together with his team, to the Basilan Schools Division. Their visit included the validation of proposed construction sites for much-needed school buildings and classrooms.

Alhamdulillah, Basilan Division is set to receive an allocation of 800 classrooms under Public Private Partnership—a significant step toward improving learning environments and ensuring quality education for our learners. This development strengthens our commitment to providing safe, conducive, and child-friendly spaces across our 179 schools.

During the visit, Usec Mendoza also officially turned over 318 manipulative toys under the TEACEP program, supporting early learning and foundational skills. We were further encouraged by the update that tablets for our learners are already on transit to Basilan, enhancing access to 21st-century education tools.

Even on a Sunday, we were showered with blessings beyond expectation. This milestone reflects the power of collaboration and shared vision.

InshaAllah, we look forward to stronger partnerships with the Department of Education Central Office.

Alhamdulillah!

The Basilan Division has successfully concluded its final meeting with Hon. Congressman Yusop T. Alano and his wife Dayang Mirhama Jaljalis marking a significant step forward for the Innovation for Quality Reading and Arithmetic (IQRA) and AZATIDZ programs for traditional Madrasah learners in Basilan.

This meaningful initiative will directly benefit 1,300 learners and 1,300 parents, while also creating 130 tutor jobs—a powerful combination of educational support and livelihood generation. Anchored in partnership with MBHTE-BARMM Basilan Division, and supported through Department of Social Welfare and Development 9 (AICS) and Department of Labor and Employment 9 (TUPAD), the program aims to uplift struggling learners, especially in Grade 2, across the 11 municipalities and 179 schools of Basilan.

Indeed, this noble effort goes beyond education—it transforms lives, strengthens families, and builds a brighter future for the children of Basilan.
