The Department of Science and Technology Region VII (DOST-7) joined fellow DOST regional offices in the Smart and Sustainable Communities Program (SSCP) Strategic Plan Presentation and Regional Accomplishment Review held on March 17–18, 2026.
The event served as a venue to look back at what has been achieved and to plan stronger, more responsive strategies for the future.
DOST-7’s Key Contributions:
☑️Community Roadmaps: LGUs such as Pinamungajan and Mandaue City now have SMART roadmaps — guiding plans that use science and technology to improve public services, safety, and sustainability.
☑️Empowered LGUs: Seven local governments across Cebu and Bohol were trained to adopt digital tools and smarter ways of serving their people, from disaster preparedness to online services.
☑️Partnerships and Linkages: Agreements were signed with Pinamungajan and Mandaue City, while collaborations were built with local groups like CVISNET, Rameses and RAFI, and international partners WISFLUX and JUIDA.
☑️Policy Support: Pinamungajan passed a resolution to officially support its SMART roadmap, showing strong commitment to innovation in governance.
☑️Local Innovations: DOST-7 partnered with homegrown innovators offering solutions in farming, healthcare, transportation, and disaster resilience — proving that local technologies can solve local problems.
By reviewing accomplishments and aligning strategies, DOST-7 reaffirmed its mission to make science and technology “felt by the people” — ensuring that communities in Central Visayas are not only smarter but also more resilient, inclusive, and future-ready.

𝐃𝐎𝐒𝐓 𝐂𝐞𝐛𝐮 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐚𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠! 🚁🌾

The Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO) Cebu joined the SARAI Drone Training held on March 11–13, 2026 in Sitio Uma, Tindog, Medellin, Cebu, as part of the Department of Science and Technology’s Smarter Approaches to Reinvigorate Agriculture as an Industry in the Philippines (SARAI) Project.

The three-day training brought together DOST VII SARAI Project staff, representatives from PSTO Cebu and PSTO Bohol, and officials from LGU Medellin to enhance their skills in drone technology for agriculture and data-driven farm management.

Participants successfully completed the Basic Drone Familiarization and Basic Operation Training using the DJI Mavic 3 Multispectral drone, gaining hands-on experience and technical knowledge essential for modern agricultural monitoring.

The training covered several important topics including:

✔️ Basic RPA (Remotely Piloted Aircraft) settings
✔️ RPA troubleshooting and maintenance
✔️ Safety practices for drone operations
✔️ Basic aerial maneuvers and drone flight control
✔️ Regulatory orientation on PCAR Parts 1, 2, 4, and 11.11

Participants also logged a total of five (5) hours of flight time, strengthening their practical drone piloting skills.

This capacity-building activity supports DOST’s commitment to leveraging emerging technologies such as drone-based remote sensing to support smarter, more efficient, and data-driven agricultural management. Through initiatives like this, DOST continues to empower local government units and stakeholders with tools that can enhance agricultural productivity and resilience.

DOST VII remains committed to promoting science, technology, and innovation (STI) solutions that contribute to sustainable agricultural development in Central Visayas.

In a meaningful step toward empowering learners and educators, a 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐁𝐎𝐎𝐊𝐒 𝐓𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐲 was held with the support of 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐥𝐚 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐨, highlighting the shared commitment to improving education through 𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞-𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐬.

𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐁𝐎𝐎𝐊𝐒, a 𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐲 that can operate even without internet connectivity, provides students and teachers with access to thousands of resources in science, technology, engineering, agriculture, health, and livelihood technologies. The 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬, especially those in areas with limited connectivity, to access credible and research-based learning materials that support STEM education and encourage curiosity, discovery, and innovation among young learners.

🌸 DOST-7 Supports the 2026 National Women’s Month Celebration! 🌸

The Department of Science and Technology Region VII proudly stands with the nation in celebrating the 2026 National Women’s Month spearheaded by the Philippine Commission on Women, answering the call for Women and Everyone (WE) to actively advance Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment through a united, whole-of-government and whole-of-society effort.

Guided by the sub-theme “Lead like the Babaylans, Filipinas!”, we pay tribute to the strength and wisdom of pre-colonial women leaders whose compassion, insight, and inclusive leadership continue to shape empowered and resilient communities.

As the Philippines leads ASEAN 2026 under the theme “Navigating Our Future, Together,” DOST-7 remains committed to promoting inclusive innovation and empowering women in science and technology—helping build a Bagong Pilipinas and a more equitable and progressive ASEAN. 🌺
