🟠 PDRRM IFUGAO ADVISORY: DRY SEASON
1. 🌡️ The dry season may bring:
• Prolonged hot weather and heat waves
• Reduced rainfall leading to water shortages
• Increased risk of grass/forest fires
• Possible impacts on health, agriculture, and power supply

2. ⚠️ Potential Hazards
• Heat-related illnesses (heat exhaustion, heat stroke)
• Drought affecting water supply and crops
• Wildfires / Grassfires in dry areas
• Power interruptions due to high electricity demand

3. 🏠 Preparedness Measures
A. Household Level
• Store safe drinking water and ration usage
• Keep homes well-ventilated; use curtains/blinds to reduce heat
• Prepare emergency kits (water, first aid, flashlight)
• Avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours
B. Community / Barangay Level
• Activate Barangay DRRM Committees for monitoring
• Identify and prepare cooling centers or shaded evacuation areas
• Conduct information drives on heat safety and fire prevention
• Ensure fire-fighting equipment is accessible
C. Health & Safety
• Drink plenty of water; avoid alcohol and sugary drinks
• Wear light clothing and protective gear (hat/umbrella)
• Monitor vulnerable individuals (elderly, children, PWDs)
• Coordinate with local health units for heat illness response

4. 🔥 Fire Prevention Measures
• Strictly prohibit open burning of waste
• Clear dry leaves and combustible materials near homes
• Report smoke/fire immediately to authorities
• Prepare community fire watch groups if needed

5. 💧 Water & Power Management
• Implement water conservation practices
• Coordinate with local water districts for supply advisories
• Use electricity efficiently to prevent outages
• Prepare backup lighting (flashlights, rechargeable lamps)

6. 🚜 Agriculture Advisory
• Practice water-efficient irrigation methods
• Adjust planting schedules based on weather forecasts
• Use drought-resistant crops where possible

7. 📢 Monitoring & Coordination
• Continuously monitor updates from:
o PAGASA (weather forecasts)
o NDRRMC (national advisories)
o Local DRRM Offices

8. 🚨 Emergency Reminders
• In case of heat stroke or fire incidents, seek immediate assistance
• Keep emergency hotline numbers accessible
• Stay informed through our official channels

Today, the PDRRM Office upon the directive of the Chairperson, PDRRMC Honorable Jerry U. Dalipog, to continuously man the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) by monitoring the Area of Responsibility (AOR), ensuring timely coordination and response within all EOCs in Ifugao.

Local DRRM Councils are also deployed along major roads to assist motorists during this event. In addition, PDRRMO staff visited nearby riverbanks to remind all picnic-goers to adhere to the liquor ban implemented by the Municipality of Lagawe. They also advised the public to be mindful of water currents while swimming and to closely watch their children at all times.

📢 SEMANA SANTA 2026

The PDRRM Office continues to actively man the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to ensure timely coordination, continuous monitoring, and prompt response actions throughout the observance of Holy Week (Semana Santa) 2026.

The Provincial DRRMC EOC is currently on BLUE Alert Status, strengthening interoperability and response readiness among Response Cluster members and Local Disaster Risk Reduction andDisaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (LDRRMCs) across the Province of Ifugao.

We encourage everyone to remain vigilant, observe safety precautions, and cooperate with local authorities to ensure a safe and peaceful observance of Semana Santa.

Five staff from the PDRRM-Ifugao participated in the Basic Incident Command System (BICS) Training conducted by the Office of Civil Defense Cordillera Administrative Region (OCD-CAR), held on March 24–26 at Olive Town Center and Hotel in Baguio City. An outreach program was successfully conducted at Alimit Elementary School in Mayoyao on March 27, 2026, under the leadership of the Provincial Fire Marshal FSup. Jessie S Annasiw. The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) also participated by sharing disaster preparedness and distributed Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials. These materials highlighted essential safety measures during typhoons, floods, and fire incidents, aiming to enhance the preparedness and awareness of students, teachers, and the community on proper preparedness and response.

Random snapshots taken during the Northern Luzon Rescuelympics 2026, held on March 17–20 in Apayao, beautifully set along the scenic river at the Dacao Dam Section, Lower Maton, Pudtol.

We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to our PDRRMC headed by Chairperson Hon. Jerry U. Dalipog for their support to Ifugao participants to have this kind of experience. We also commend the brave men and women of the Ifugao Rescue Team, along with the ever-supportive crew, for their invaluable contributions to the success of this activity.

Although we did not secure a win, this experience highlighted the dedication, teamwork, and unwavering efforts of every participant. Truly, the spirit of service and resilience prevailed throughout the activity.

We remain inspired and motivated to further strengthen our skills, enhance our preparedness, and continue serving our communities with commitment and excellence. Events like this not only build competence but also foster camaraderie and unity among responders. With gratitude and pride, we look forward to more opportunities to learn, collaborate, and serve.
