ππππππ ππππππππ | Communities in Batad, Banaue showcased their strength and endurance through the indigenous games Mun-Agtuh and Munbatawel during the celebration of Iwang Ad Batad 2026, also known as the Tinawon Rice Harvest Festival, held in Batad, Banaue.
The Mun-Agtuh was participated in by women, both young adults and senior citizens from the barangayβs seven puroks, who carried a six-kilogram bundle of rice stalks on their heads, placed inside a rattan basket.
The Munbatawel, on the other hand, was participated in by men who carried four six-kilogram bundles of rice stalks suspended from both ends of a wooden shoulder yoke.
Participants carried the rice stalks from the rice fields to the festival venue, covering an approximate distance of two kilometers, or about an hourβs trek through the rice terraces.
These indigenous games simulate the traditional method used by Ifugao farmers to transport their rice (palay) harvest from the rice terraces to the storage area, locally known as an "alang."
The games were among the cultural activities showcased during the Tinawon Rice Harvest Festival held on May 30, 2026.
