The National Commission for Culture and the Artsโthrough its Cultural Properties Protection and Regulation Divisionโin collaboration with the Philippine Cultural Education Program and in partnership with the Department of Education - Ifugao Division, Provincial Government of Ifugao, and Ifugao State University will be holding the Capacity Building on Cultural Heritage for Educators and Cultural Workers, a Training-Writeshop on Culture-Based Teaching of the Basic Education Curriculum, from November 30 - December 2, 2023, in Banaue, Ifugao.
The training-writeshop will capacitate 70 participants in designing learning materials to aid teachers and cultural workers in providing a multi-dimensional and inclusive insight into the values associated with heritage sites in formal and informal education settings.
Ifugao Rice Terraces cultural landscape was chosen as one of the pilot sites because of the areaโs rich heritage resources, including: (i) its UNESCO World Heritage designation; (ii) Cordilleraโs active traditional arts sector; (iii) its hosting of intangible cultural heritage, particularly Hudhud and Punnuk, which were inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity; (iv) and this recognition from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System.
The project aims to contribute to an improvement in learning outcomes and seeing new generations of youth with a deeper sense of respect and appreciation for our cultural heritage and a stronger sense of social identity and belongingness to the community.
