𝟐,𝟎𝟒𝟔 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐞𝐥 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐟 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞

A total of 2,046 identified farmers from the municipalities of Buguias and Mankayan who were affected by the fuel crisis received ₱5,000 each in Socio-Economic Relief Assistance under the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (PDRRM) Fund.

The assistance was distributed by the Provincial Government of Benguet (PLGU), through the Provincial Agriculture Office (PAgO), on July 16, 2026. Distribution activities were held at the Municipal Agriculture Office in Lamagan, Abatan, Buguias, and at the Municipal Gym in Poblacion, Mankayan.

Provincial Agriculturist Delinia D. Juan stated that the beneficiaries were selected based on specific eligibility criteria, including not having previously received similar assistance from the Department of Agriculture (DA), the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), or the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

In their message, Provincial Governor Hon. Melchor D. Diclas and Vice Governor Hon. Marie Rose Fongwan-Kepes reaffirmed the provincial government's continued commitment to supporting the local agricultural sector and assisting farmers affected by unforeseen crises.

Among the officials present during the distribution were Board Members Hon. Jim G. Botiwey, Hon. Lady Charmaine S. Molintas-Likigan, Hon. Mary Joy Sabo Fermin, Hon. Armando Lauro, Hon. Neptali B. Camsol, and Hon. Romeo K. Salda.

The relief initiative is funded under Budget Ordinance No. 2026-06, which allocated ₱20 million to provide assistance to approximately 4,000 affected farmers across the province. This initiative forms part of the province's ongoing recovery and rehabilitation efforts to help farmers cope with the adverse impacts of the fuel crisis.

The PLGU Benguet Team expressed its sincere gratitude to the municipal officials of Buguias and Mankayan, headed by Mayor Julius M. Amos and Mayor Cesar R. Pasiwen, respectively. The team also extended its appreciation to the barangay officials, Municipal Agriculture Office personnel, and Barangay Agricultural Extension Workers (BAEWs) for their invaluable support and assistance throughout the conduct of the activity.

Around 300 identified farmers from Itogon, Kapangan, Sablan, Tuba, and Tublay affected by the fuel crisis received ₱5,000 each in Socio-Economic Relief Assistance under the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (PDRRM) Fund. The assistance was distributed by the Provincial Government of Benguet through the Provincial Agriculture Office (PAgO) on July 13, 2026, at Ben Palispis Hall, Provincial Capitol, La Trinidad, Benguet.

Provincial Agriculturist Delinia D. Juan said the beneficiaries were identified based on eligibility criteria, including not having received similar assistance from the Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), or Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Provincial Governor Hon. Melchor D. Diclas acknowledged the farmers' resilience amid typhoons, drought, and the fuel crisis, and reaffirmed the provincial government's continued support for the agriculture sector.

Farmers from Kibungan received the same assistance during the HEALTHIER Benguet Caravan on June 30, 2026. Distribution for the remaining municipalities is scheduled before the end of July.
The assistance is funded under Budget Ordinance No. 2026-06, which allocated ₱20 million to benefit about 4,000 farmers across the province.

The Provincial Government of Benguet, through the Provincial Agriculture Office, advises all farmers to take precautionary measures to minimize damage to crops, livestock, and farm properties in preparation for the approaching Typhoon INDAY.

✅ For Crops
Harvest mature and marketable crops ahead of the typhoon to minimize losses.
Strengthen trellises and other crop support structures to prevent damage.
Ensure proper drainage in vegetable gardens and rice fields to prevent waterlogging and soil erosion.
Store harvested produce in safe, elevated, and well-ventilated areas.
Secure farm inputs, such as seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides, in waterproof containers or storage areas.

✅ For Livestock and Poultry
Transfer animals to safe, elevated, and well-ventilated shelters.
Stock sufficient feed and clean water in secure storage.
Ensure proper drainage in animal pens to prevent flooding.
Properly tie or confine animals to prevent them from being swept away by strong winds or floodwaters.

✅ For Farm Structures and Equipment
Reinforce roofs, greenhouses, nurseries, and other farm structures.
Disconnect and secure electrical equipment and irrigation pumps, especially in low-lying areas.
Store machinery, equipment, and farm tools in safe, covered, and elevated locations.

Avoid crossing rivers, creeks, or flooded areas.
Stay updated through official advisories from PAGASA and your Local Government Unit (LGU).

𝐋𝐀 𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐈𝐃𝐀𝐃, 𝐁𝐄𝐍𝐆𝐔𝐄𝐓 —The Provincial Agricultural and Fisheries Council of Benguet (PAFC-Benguet) formally presented its "𝙈𝙤𝙨𝙩 𝙊𝙪𝙩𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘼𝙜𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙁𝙞𝙨𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝘾𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙘𝙞𝙡" national award to the Benguet Provincial Local Government Unit during todays flag-raising ceremony, July 6, 2026 at the Benguet Provincial Capitol Grounds.

PAFC-Benguet was awarded as the 𝙈𝙤𝙨𝙩 𝙊𝙪𝙩𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘼𝙜𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙁𝙞𝙨𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝘾𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙘𝙞𝙡 among all provincial and highly urbanized city AFCs in the Philippines. The prestigious honor was conferred during the 51st Gawad Saka Awards held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).

The Gawad Saka Awards is the Department of Agriculture's highest annual recognition program, recognizing individuals, organizations, and institutions that have demonstrated excellence, innovation, resilience, and significant contributions to the advancement of Philippine agriculture and fisheries.

This remarkable achievement reflects the unwavering commitment, strong collaboration, and shared dedication of Benguet's farmers, fishers, agricultural workers, local officials, and partner agencies in advancing sustainable agriculture and fisheries development in the province.

The public is hereby informed that effective 𝐉𝐔𝐋𝐘 6, 2026, the Provincial Local Government Unit of Benguet will resume its 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐟𝐢𝐯𝐞-𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐞, following the lifting of the provincial memorandum implementing the compressed work week.

Office operations and public services will be available 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 8:00𝐚𝐦 𝐭𝐨 5:00𝐩𝐦, except on holidays.

ＰＡＳＡＹ ＣＩＴＹ， Ｊｕｎｅ ２９， ２０２６ – The Benguet Provincial Agricultural and Fisheries Council (PAFC-Benguet) was named the 𝘔𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘖𝘶𝘵𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘈𝘨𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘍𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘊𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘭 among all provincial and highly urbanized city AFCs in the country during the 51st Gawad Saka Awards held at the Philippine International Convention Center.

The Gawad Saka Awards is the Department of Agriculture's highest annual recognition program, recognizing individuals, organizations, and institutions that have demonstrated excellence, innovation, resilience, and significant contributions to the advancement of Philippine agriculture and fisheries.

PAFC-Benguet was represented by Chairman Gerson L. Domoguen, Vice Chairperson Andy B. Colte, Sr., Buguias MAFC Chair Daguio K. Atopen, Treasurer Teresa L. Dati, Sectoral Chair on Rice Editha S. Bawingan, PAFC SecretariatCoordinator Corazon P. Ateo-an who were joined by officials from the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office and Central Office during the awarding ceremony.

In addition to the national recognition, the council received a ₱600,000 grant from the Department of Agriculture to support programs and initiatives that will further enhance Benguet's agriculture and fisheries sector.

The award underscores Benguet's continued efforts to strengthen local agricultural governance and improve the welfare of farming communities through collaboration and innovation.
