MANKAYAN, SABLAN BHWs ATTEND CAPABILITY-BUILDING AS ON-THE-GROUND HEPOs

Cognizant of the evolving roles of the Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) in a reformed and more responsive health delivery system under the Universal Health Care Law, the 3rd batch of Training on the Foundation of BHWs as on-the-ground Health Education and Promotion Officers (HEPOs) was implemented by the Provincial Health Office (PHO) participated by selected BHWs from the municipalities of Mankayan and Sablan held at the Pooten Resort, Asin, Tuba, Benguet on August 18-19, 2022.

The 2-day training aimed to orient the participants on the basic goals and objectives of the Universal Health Care Law and realize their contributions towards its full implementation. Further, to enhance and develop their interpersonal communication skills during health assessments and on the referral and delivery of key messages to clients at the community level. The BHWs are expected to effectively plan, organize, and facilitate health promotion events in their respective barangays.

The activity was facilitated by Ms. Krystal A. Gatab, BHW Coordinator, with the supervision of Dr. Andrew Chamson M. Bacuso, Medical Specialist I, PHO. Likewise, Ms. Madonna I. Dalgis, HEPO II, PDOHO-Benguet, and Mr. Patrick W. Depolio, HEPO II, PHO, were invited as additional Resource Speakers.

The Provincial Government of Benguet headed by Gov. Melchor Daguines Diclas fully support and recognizes the invaluable efforts of BHWs in the province in the pursuit of a healthier Benguet. ||

President Duterte signed R.A. 11223 or the Universal Health Care Act into law last February 20, 2019.

The UHC Act contains comprehensive and progressive reforms that will ensure every Filipino is healthy, protected from health hazards and risks, and has access to affordable, quality, and readily available health service that is suitable to their needs.
