SRA forges partnership with CPSU: Signs in Scholars
The Sugar Regulatory Administration, in its bid to further boost the development of the sugar industry forged a Memorandum of Understanding with the Central Philippines State University (CPSU) as a partner in the various development endeavours.
As a start up, five students of agriculture-related courses were signed in as fulltime scholars, in a ceremony held at CPSU main campus in Kabankalan City on October 24, 2014 attended by SRA Administrator Ma. Regina B. Martin, CPSU officials, SRA Visayas Scholarship Committee and the parents. The scholars were selected from low income families but excel in their fields of studies in Crop Science, Agricultural Extension, Applied Statistics and Agricultural Engineering. CPSU officials dubbed the scholarship as the best ever in the university due to its qualifications and its privileges and that upon graduation scholars will be absorbed by the sugar industry.
In her speech, Administrator Martin emphasized the importance of developing a new breed of technologists who will face the challenges of the sugar and other evolving sugarcane industries. She also announced that nurseries of sugarcane HYVs will be set up in various CPSU campuses as sources of planting materials for the sugarcane farmers in adjacent areas. A soils laboratory and many other projects are being pursued as components of the SRA-CPSU partnership, all of which are aimed towards bringing the services of SRA closer to the industry stakeholders.
