𝗛𝗔𝗭𝗘𝗪𝗔𝗧𝗖𝗛: Haze occurs when fine dust, smoke, and pollutants accumulate in the atmosphere. Prevailing seasonal winds carry these particles from distant peatland fires, reducing visibility and lowering air quality during dry spells.

𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗹𝘆 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀:
-Limit Exposure: Stay indoors, close doors and windows, and pause strenuous outdoor exercises.
-Wear Proper Protection: Use N95 or KN95 respirators outside because standard surgical or cloth masks cannot block fine PM2.5 particles.
-Protect Risk Groups: Keep children, senior citizens, and individuals with heart or lung conditions in well-ventilated indoor spaces.

𝗗𝗘𝗡𝗥-𝟭𝟮 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱, 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹

LOOK: The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 12 held on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2026, an oath-taking ceremony for 21 newly appointed and promoted employees from the regional and field offices at the agency’s quadrangle in Koronadal City.

The ceremony was administered by OIC-Regional Executive Director Maria Elvira V. Lumayag, who also emphasized to the appointees that public service at the DENR demands more than routine duty.

She challenged them to anchor their work in the core values of Discipline, Excellence, Nobility, and Responsibility, setting a high standard for integrity and excellence across the agency.

𝐏𝐄𝐍𝐑𝐎 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐨 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐒𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐨𝐨 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬

𝐒𝐎𝐔𝐓𝐇 𝐂𝐎𝐓𝐀𝐁𝐀𝐓𝐎 — The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) South Cotabato conducted a site visit on August 25 to assess and validate facilities and activities involving the development and utilization of bamboo products in Polomolok.

The team visited the Community Nursery in Cannery, the first Cement-Bamboo Frame Technology (CBFT) Classroom under the Adopt-A-School Program, 18 CBFT housing units under the Balai Pag-Asa Housing Project, and the SEED FARM treatment facility in Brgy. Cannery Site. The assessment focused on the actual implementation and potential of these initiatives in promoting bamboo-based technology, livelihood opportunities, and sustainable resource use.

The site visit was conducted in partnership with Mahintana Foundation Inc. and DOLE Philippines, with the participation of PENRO South Cotabato and the Protected Area Management Office of the Mt. Matutum Protected Landscape. The activity provided an opportunity to examine how bamboo can be further utilized as an alternative material while supporting community development and environmental protection.

The activity highlighted the potential of bamboo beyond its traditional uses, particularly through collaboration among government agencies, partner organizations, and communities. Through continued assessment and validation, stakeholders can identify opportunities to further develop bamboo-based initiatives that benefit both communities and the environment.
