An online discussion has surfaced after photos and videos circulated on social media showing a group of hikers—reportedly joined by a celebrity or public-facing individual—allegedly writing or marking on a rock along a popular mountain trail in Batangas.

The images, which first appeared on Instagram Stories and were later reposted by a companion from the same hike, quickly caught the attention of members of the hiking and outdoor community. Netizens raised concerns, noting that marking natural rock formations goes against responsible hiking practices and the widely followed Leave No Trace principles.

Outdoor advocates stressed that celebrities and influencers, given their wide reach and visibility, carry added responsibility when sharing outdoor content online. Several commenters questioned whether the group had been properly oriented by a guide or had researched basic hiking do’s and don’ts prior to the climb.

While many acknowledged that celebrity participation in hiking can help promote tourism and appreciation for nature, others emphasized that such influence should model proper behavior, as followers may imitate what they see online.

As of writing, no official statement has been issued. The incident has renewed calls for stronger awareness campaigns on environmental protection and responsible content creation in outdoor spaces.
