🌿 Celebrating the International Day for Biological Diversity 2026 🌿

The City Planning and Development Office (CPDO), in partnership with the Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO), conducted an Environmental and Biodiversity Forum on May 21, 2026 at the City Planning and Development Office in observance of the International Day for Biological Diversity.

The activity gathered participants from the Integrated Social Forestry Associations, Coastal People’s Organizations, and CPDO personnel to strengthen awareness and appreciation of environmental conservation, biodiversity protection, and climate action.

The forum featured insightful discussions from resource persons including:
🌱 Rationale and Overview – EnP Susana M. Casalem, CPDC–CPDO
🌱 Laws of Nature and Basic Ecology – Ms. Evelyn A. Cielo, CDA I, PEMO
🌱 Climate Change Education – Dr. Ma. Elena B. San Jose, Head, Technical Support Services Division (TSSD), PEMO

Preparations are underway for the City of Kabankalan Environment Week Celebration 2026. 🌿

The City Environment Week Celebration Technical Working Group convened on May 20, 2026 at the SP Session Hall, Kabankalan City Hall, led by EnP Susana M. Casalem, CPDC–CPDO, to discuss preparations and key activities for the upcoming celebration.

During the meeting, Dr. Ma. Elena San Jose, TSSD Head of PEMO, presented the lineup of activities for the 34th Provincial Environment Month Celebration, which served as reference in aligning the city’s planned activities anchored on this year’s theme: “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For our Future.”

Through strengthened collaboration and coordinated planning, Kabankalan continues to advance environmental awareness and collective action toward a more sustainable future.

🌿 Urban Biodiversity Site Reconnaissance Conducted in Kabankalan City 🌿

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in collaboration with the City Government of Kabankalan through the City Planning and Development Office, successfully conducted a site reconnaissance on urban biodiversity on May 19, 2026. The activity covered key sites including the City Plaza, Demo Farm, Dumpsite at Brgy. Hilamonan, and Camugao Elementary School, to assess existing urban ecological conditions and identify biodiversity features within the city landscape.

Prior to the field activity, a coordination meeting was held on May 18, 2026 at the CPDO Office to align objectives, discuss the scope of work, and finalize arrangements for the conduct of the reconnaissance activity.

This initiative supports ongoing efforts to strengthen urban biodiversity planning, environmental management, and sustainable urban development in Kabankalan City.

Advancing Development Priorities for a Progressive Kabankalan

The 1st City Development Council (CDC) Meeting of the City of Kabankalan was successfully conducted today, May 13, 2026, at the SP Session Hall, Kabankalan City Hall, presided over by City Mayor Benjie M. Miranda.

The meeting gathered council members, local officials, and sectoral representatives to discuss key development priorities and strategic initiatives for the city. Major agenda included the proposed 2027 Annual Investment Program (AIP), priority projects of the City Mayor, updates on Kabankalan City’s direction toward becoming a Highly Urbanized City, and the Flood Risk Management Project for the Ilog-Hilabangan River Basin.

The activity reflects the city’s continued commitment to participatory governance, sustainable development, and collaborative planning in building a more resilient, progressive, and future-ready Kabankalan.

PSA CBMS 2024 Data Turnover to the City Government of Kabankalan

The Philippine Statistics Authority formally turned over the 2024 Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) data to the City Government of Kabankalan on April 29, 2026, at the City Planning and Development Office.

Representing the City Mayor, City Administrator Atty. Mac Lord Zafra received the data together with EnP Susana M. Casalem, CPDC, and Engr. Eric Einosas, Assistant CPDC. The PSA delegation was represented by Fredimar Gonzales, Statistical Specialist II, PSA Negros Occidental.

The turnover of the CBMS 2024 data marks a significant step in strengthening evidence-based planning and policy formulation, reinforcing the City’s commitment to data-driven governance and sustainable local development.
