𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧 𝐄𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐜 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧
Qualified senior scouts of Basilan National High School, predominantly holding the Outdoor Scout rank, alongside a few Pathfinder scouts, commenced the first day of the Emergency Service Training Course (ESTC) with a Basic Life Support (BLS) lecture session at Basilan National High School.
The session marked the beginning of a series of weekend training activities designed to equip scout trainees with essential emergency response knowledge and practical skills. The BLS lecture was facilitated by Ms. Irene Francisco, RN, EMT; Jail Officer III Marvin E. Sacristan, RN, EMT; and Mr. Giovanni Peñaflor, EMT, who shared their expertise in basic life-saving techniques and emergency response procedures.
The training was closely monitored to ensure the quality of instruction and the achievement of the course objectives. Through the guidance of the facilitators, the participating scouts were introduced to fundamental concepts that will prepare them for the upcoming assessment and practical components of the course.
Meanwhile, Dr. Arnel B. Hajan, concurrent Principal of Basilan National High School, expressed his gratitude to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) for granting the request to facilitate the ESTC sessions. He acknowledged the office's support and the importance of providing scouts with relevant emergency preparedness and response training.
The first-day session is only one component of the comprehensive training program. On October 25, the scout trainees are scheduled to undergo their Basic Life Support assessment to evaluate their understanding and competency in the subject.
The succeeding training sessions will be conducted on October 30–31 and November 1, followed by November 7–8, featuring physical training, practical emergency response exercises, and other specialized activities.
The rigorous training is a crucial step toward the establishment of the first Emergency Service Corps of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP)–Basilan Council. Through this initiative, the Council headed by OIC-Council Scout Executive Mr. Mark H. Delos Reyes aims to develop disciplined, capable, and service-oriented scouts who can contribute to emergency preparedness and community response efforts.
As the training progresses, the scout trainees are expected to demonstrate commitment, discipline, teamwork, and competence in every assessment and activity. Their successful completion of the required training will be an essential step toward qualifying as members of the Council's pioneering Emergency Service Corps.
