Summer Learn-to-Play Culminates in Sporting Triumph
The Basilan National High School Gymnasium came alive with energy and celebration as the 1st Summer Learn-to-Play Program was successfully concluded on May 14, 2026. The event highlighted the achievements of young athletes who dedicated themselves to training and learning new sports throughout the summer initiative.
For 11 days, participants from different communities across Isabela City engaged in various sports disciplines, including Arnis, Pencak Silat, Swimming, Taekwondo, and Wushu. The program provided learners with opportunities to explore their potential, develop discipline, and showcase their talents in both combative and artistic events.
The closing ceremony was graced by Dr. Arnel B. Hajan, Division Sports Officer, together with facilitators and trainers. Among them were Mr. Jerico Dela Cruz, Division Tournament Director for Arnis, Mr. Javier Ladja, Division Tournament Director for Taekwondo, and trainers Mr. Japeth Jamero, Mr. Al-Zalman Jamero, Mr. Cyrus Dean B. Delica, Mr. Kevin B. Delica, Mr. Sherbien Godoy, and Mr. Edilbert B. Delica. Their collective expertise and commitment ensured the programβs success.
Dr. Hajan expressed his joy over the successful first year of the Learn-to-Play Program. He emphasized the importance of sports in the holistic development of the youth, noting how athletics instill discipline, teamwork, and resilience. He also extended his gratitude to all staff and facilitators who worked tirelessly to make the activity possible.

Adding artistry to the program, participants of Arnis, Pencak Silat, and Taekwondo performed a special intermission number, showcasing the creative and cultural side of their sports.
The initiative aligns with DepEd Order No. 010, s. 2026 β Guidelines for the Implementation of Summer Programs, which encourages divisions to initiate summer activities that promote holistic development, remediation, and enrichment opportunities for learners.
The Learn-to-Play Program demonstrated how sports can contribute to the overall growth and development of children, preparing them not only as athletes but as well-rounded individuals.
