GSIS Rolls Out Three-Month Emergency Loan Payment Grace Period to Help Members and Pensioners Rebuild After Typhoons Tino and Uwan
In a decisive move to ease the burden on Filipinos recovering from the devastation of Typhoons Tino and Uwan, the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has rolled out a three-month grace period on emergency loan payments for its members and pensioners in affected areas.
The initiative underscores GSIS’s unwavering commitment to stand by government workers and retirees during times of crisis, providing them with much-needed financial flexibility to rebuild their homes, livelihoods, and communities.
“This grace period is more than just a financial reprieve—it is a lifeline,” said GSIS President and General Manager Jose Arnulfo Veloso. “We know that many of our members and pensioners are struggling to recover from the back-to-back typhoons. By deferring their loan payments, we are giving them the time and space to heal, rebuild, and move forward without the immediate pressure of financial obligations.”
The GSIS Board of Trustees has expressed its full support for the implementation of the grace period, affirming that the measure is aligned with the institution’s mandate to protect the welfare of its members and pensioners, especially during times of national hardship.
The GSIS Emergency Loan Program, which opened on November 7, 2025, will remain available until February 7, 2026. Eligible members and pensioners may apply conveniently through the GSIS website, the GSIS Touch mobile app, or by visiting the nearest GSIS office.
Under the approved grace period, no loan payments will be due until 2026. Specifically:
• Loans granted in November 2025 will begin amortization in March 2026, with the first payment due on or before April 10, 2026;
• Loans released in December 2025 will start in April 2026, payable on or before May 10, 2026;
• Those granted in January 2026 will begin in June 2026, payable by July 10, 2026; and
• Loans released in February 2026 will start in July 2026, with payments due by August 10, 2026.
This three-month payment reprieve provides GSIS borrowers with valuable breathing space to regain financial stability before resuming regular amortizations.
The move complements Proclamation No. 1077, signed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on November 5, 2025, which declared a State of National Calamity for one year following the widespread destruction caused by Typhoon Tino. The declaration allows for faster and more coordinated relief, recovery, and rehabilitation efforts nationwide.
As the country braces for Super Typhoon Uwan, which entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on November 7, 2025, the GSIS remains steadfast in its mission to uphold compassionate service and social responsibility, ensuring that no member or pensioner is left behind in this time of adversity.
