CALLING ALL AGRI-FISHERY RESEARCHERS!

The 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗦𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘂𝗺 (𝗡𝗥𝗦) is open for paper submissions! Organized by the DA-Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR), this year's theme is "R4D Excellence: Driving Progress, Delivering Impact."

We’re inviting Filipino scientists and researchers from DA units and attached agencies, state universities and colleges, and other government institutions under the DA’s National Agriculture and Fisheries R&D System (NaRDSAF) that conducts R&D work in agriculture and fisheries.

Eligible papers must feature work completed between August 2023 and August 2026.

The NRS culminates in the AFMA Research Paper Award, which recognizes researchers whose work has delivered impactful technologies, information, processes, or systems to the agriculture and fisheries sector.

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝘂𝗚𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗧 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿𝘀!

STAARRDEC proudly congratulates the eleven (11) BS Biology major in Microbiology students of Cavite State University (CvSU) who have successfully completed their undergraduate journey as DOST-PCAARRD uGREAT Scholars!

Their undergraduate research experience formed part of the PCAARRD-funded project, “Bean2Cup Quality of Liberica and Excelsa Coffee: Fermentation Metagenome and Metabolome Profiling in Response to Indigenous Starter Cultures,” implemented at CvSU in Indang, Cavite. The project is led by Mr. Angelbert D. Cortes, Director of the National Coffee Research Development and Extension Center (NCRDEC) and faculty member of the CvSU Department of Biological Sciences.

Their remarkable academic achievements make this milestone even more special: 1 Summa Cum Laude, 2 Magna Cum Laude, and 6 Cum Laude among the graduates.

The Undergraduate Research and Education Assistantship for Technology (uGREAT) Program is one of DOST-PCAARRD’s human resource development initiatives that provides undergraduate students with opportunities to participate in real-world R&D projects and be mentored by researchers.

Congratulations, our young researchers! May your curiosity, passion, and commitment to science continue to grow as you embark on the next chapter of your journey.

How do we make sure that agricultural products move efficiently from producers to consumers?

One answer is through food hubs—systems that help connect farmers and fisherfolk with consolidation, logistics, markets, and buyers.

To support this, the Department of Agriculture has prioritized a nationwide logistics network, backed by DA Memorandum Circular No. 03, Series of 2026, which establishes strict registration and monitoring guidelines for agricultural storage and logistics facilities.

Beyond infrastructure, these food hubs strengthen the agricultural value chain by improving market linkages and creating better opportunities for producers.

For the AANR sector, this reminds us that innovation should not stop at production.

The Research Center in collaboration with the Southern Tagalog, Agriculture, Aquatic and Resources Research, Development and Extension Consortium (STAARRDEC) will be hosting an introductory webinar on Advanced Networked Sensors and Solutions for Measuring Plant, Soil, and Atmosphere on 04 August 2026 (01:30 PM - 3:00PM) online via Microsoft Teams.

This webinar will introduce how combining plant physiological metrics with soil and atmospheric IoT data drives impactful research in ecosystem health, water management, and sustainable agriculture. This will be delivered by Dr. Beng P. Umali, Lead Applications Scientist at ICT International Pty Ltd and Adjunct Professor at Adelaide University.
