The Philippine Multisectoral Nutrition Project (PMNP) continues to advance its mission of improving nutrition outcomes in 235 municipalities nationwide, including five municipalities in Western Visayas: Badiangan, Carles, and Dueรฑas in Iloilo Province, and Calatrava and Salvador Benedicto in Negros Occidental. Through strengthened governance, multisectoral collaboration, and evidence-based interventions, the project seeks to address malnutrition and promote healthier communities across the country.
Recognizing the crucial role of Local Chief Executives (LCEs) in driving nutrition programs at the local level, the PMNP National Mayorsโ Forum serves as a venue for mayors and key stakeholders to reflect on achievements, discuss emerging challenges, and identify innovative strategies that will further strengthen nutrition governance and service delivery.
Last June 9โ11, 2026, in Quezon City, the Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH WV CHD), led by Regional Director Helen D. Tobias, participated in the PMNP National Mayorsโ Forum together with the mayors of PMNP-covered municipalities in the region. The event highlighted the importance of strong local leadership, convergence of efforts, and data-driven decision-making in achieving better nutrition outcomes for Filipino families.
A major highlight of the forum was the presentation of emerging program results, including Performance-Based Grants (PBG), household nutrition outcomes, and local governance indicators. These insights reinforced the need for sustained commitment, innovation, and collaboration among local government units and partner agencies.
The forum also featured the Municipal Alagang Pinas Awards (MAPA), which recognize outstanding Local Government Units (LGUs) for their contributions to nutrition interventions, effective project implementation, and strengthened local systems under the PMNP. Beyond recognition, the awards promote learning exchange and the sharing of best practices among municipalities nationwide.
