BJMP-Pototan District Jail Safekeeping and Development

14/08/2026

"Hope grows stronger when communities come together to uplift those in need. Through acts of compassion and shared responsibility, we create opportunities for positive change and remind others that they are not forgotten."

The Pototan District Jail, under the leadership of JINSP REMMY O CANJA, Acting Warden, together with JO2 Amy Jane D De la Cruz, Unit Welfare and Development Officer/Human Rights Affairs Officer (UWD/HRAO), successfully facilitated the distribution of food packs to Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs). The food packs were generously donated by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) through the coordination and assistance of Ms. Jessa Mae Malificiar.

This meaningful initiative reflects the commitment of both agencies to safeguarding the welfare and well-being of PDLs. Beyond providing essential food assistance, the activity serves as a testament to the power of partnership, compassion, and public service in fostering hope and supporting the rehabilitation process.

The Pototan District Jail extends its heartfelt gratitude to the DSWD and for their generosity and unwavering support. Through collaborative efforts such as this, we continue to promote human dignity, encourage positive transformation, and strengthen our shared mission of building a more caring and inclusive community.
β€œWhen service is guided by compassion, every act of kindness becomes a source of hope, healing, and a brighter future.”

SJO1 Ian Magno, UVRO conducted values restoration program to personnel with values focus for the week, "Commitment to Public Interest"

Commitment to public interest is the foundational pillar of ethical governance, requiring a dedication that places the welfare of the collective above personal gain or partisan influence. It manifests as a steadfast devotion to transparency, accountability, and the impartial delivery of services, ensuring that every action taken in a professional capacity directly contributes to the common good and the upholding of institutional integrity. By prioritizing the needs of the community and demonstrating a consistent, principled approach to duty, individuals embody the essence of public service, fostering trust and ensuring that the ultimate purpose of their work remains the betterment and protection of the public they are sworn to serve.

Philosophical Insights & Sharing of Experience/s:
At its core, a commitment to public interest is a profound expression of social responsibility that transcends the self, rooted in the philosophical recognition that our individual lives are inextricably woven into the fabric of the community. From a virtue ethics perspective, this dedication represents a deliberate cultivation of integrity and humility, where the true measure of one's success is found not in personal accolades, but in the upliftment of the collective welfare. By viewing service as a moral imperative rather than a mere occupational obligation, we transform our daily efforts into a contribution toward the common good, thereby honoring the inherent dignity of those we serve and reinforcing the essential trust that sustains a thriving, cohesive society.

As a Values Restoration Officer, my commitment to the public interest is a sacred vocation that requires me to be a living testament to the very virtues I advocate, transforming bureaucratic duty into a mission of moral upliftment. I recognize that my influence within the BJMP extends beyond protocols, as every interaction is an opportunity to foster a culture of integrity, humility, and selfless service, effectively planting seeds of transformation in both my colleagues and the persons deprived of liberty. By choosing to act with unwavering transparency and putting the welfare of the institution and the community ahead of personal convenience, I aim to restore faith in the power of ethical leadership, ensuring that my service serves as a beacon of dignity and a catalyst for positive change in the lives of those entrusted to our care.

Ultimately, commitment to the public interest is not a destination but a daily, conscious choice to hold ourselves to a higher standard, ensuring that our legacy is defined not by the power we hold, but by the integrity with which we serve the common good.

SJO1 Ian Magno, UVRO conducted values restoration program to personnel with values focus for the week, "Sustainability".
SJO1 Ian H Magno, emphasized that sustainability is a profound commitment to stewardship, balancing our current needs with a conscientious responsibility to protect the resources and systems required by future generations. At its heart, it is the practice of living and acting with foresight, recognizing that long-term prosperity depends on the health of our environment, the stability of our communities, and the ethical management of our limited resources. By fostering habits of moderation, efficiency, and conservation, we shift from a culture of depletion to one of restoration and endurance. Ultimately, embracing sustainability is a moral imperative that aligns our daily choices with a vision of a thriving, resilient world, ensuring that our legacy is defined by what we have preserved and nurtured rather than what we have consumed.
Philosophical Insights & Sharing of Experience/s:
Philosophically, sustainability represents a departure from short-term egoism, inviting us to adopt a "temporal ethics" where we view ourselves as temporary custodians rather than absolute owners of the world. It challenges the reductionist perspective of constant growth, proposing instead that true wisdom lies in understanding the cyclical nature of existence and the profound interconnectedness between human activity and ecological balance. By shifting our focus from immediate utility to intergenerational responsibility, we transcend the limitations of the present moment, acknowledging that our actions carry a moral weight that extends far beyond our own lifespans. Ultimately, sustainability is an act of humility, requiring us to acknowledge our dependence on the systems that sustain us and confirming that a life lived with integrity is one that consciously preserves the conditions necessary for life and dignity to flourish for those who will follow.

Reflection as a Values Restoration Officer:
As a Values Restoration Officer, I view sustainability not merely as an environmental mandate, but as a profound moral imperative rooted in the integrity of our stewardship. True sustainability requires a fundamental shift in charactermoving from a mindset of consumption and exploitation to one of mindfulness, temperance, and accountability for the legacy we leave for future generations. When we cultivate values such as honesty in our reporting, compassion for the ecosystems we inhabit, and justice in the distribution of resources, we foster a culture that respects the intrinsic worth of all life. Ultimately, sustaining our world is an outward expression of an inward commitment to living ethically, recognizing that our daily choices are the seeds from which the resilience and well-being of our collective future must grow.
Closing Thought
Sustainability is ultimately an act of gratitude and foresight, transforming our relationship with the planet from one of temporary convenience to one of enduring responsibility. It is the recognition that we do not inherit the earth from our ancestors but borrow it from our children, making every conscious, restorative choice a vital contribution to a more balanced and thriving future.
