The fight against illegal drugs is not solely the responsibility of institutions and authoritiesโit is a shared responsibility that calls for the active participation of every individual, especially the youth. As we commemorate IDADAIT 2026 (International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking), we stand united in promoting awareness, prevention, and collective action toward building safer, healthier, and more resilient communities.
This yearโs theme, โWorld Drug Problem: Persisting Issues, New Challenges, Innovative Responses,โ reminds us that while the challenges of substance abuse continue to evolve, so must our responses. Through education, advocacy, mental health awareness, community engagement, and youth empowerment, we can create meaningful and lasting change.
The youth are not merely the leaders of tomorrowโwe are the changemakers of today. Across the Province of Iloilo, Sangguniang Kabataan leaders continue to take action and remain at the forefront of this advocacy. Despite limited resources, funding constraints, and various challenges faced by local youth councils, the commitment to promoting drug awareness, prevention, and community education remains steadfast.
Even amid these realities, SKs continue to organize information drives, youth engagements, educational campaigns, and community-based initiatives because the mission is greater than the limitations. The advocacy continues to move forward because the cause is clear: to build a safer Iloilo, protect the welfare of young people, and empower every Ilonggo youth to become responsible and active citizens.
As young Ilonggos, let us continue to choose conversations over silence, education over misinformation, and hope over fear. Let us strengthen our communities through compassion, understanding, and collective action. Together, we can create spaces where young people feel supported, empowered, and inspired to pursue a future free from the dangers of illegal drugs.
Today, we reaffirm our commitment to becoming advocates of prevention, partners in education, and ambassadors of positive change. Because a drug-free community begins with informed minds, empowered youth, and united action.
To all Sangguniang Kabataan officials across Iloilo Province, your efforts matter. Your initiatives, no matter how big or small, continue to create impact. Despite limited funding and various challenges, your dedication proves that genuine public service and youth leadership can move an advocacy forward and inspire communities to act.
Together, let us continue building a safer Iloilo, empowered youth, and communities free from the dangers of illegal drugs.
