DMW, Partner Agencies Strengthen Airport Anti-Trafficking Response in Iloilo

ILOILO CITY — Government agencies are strengthening their collective efforts to protect Filipino migrant workers as the Iloilo International Airport Task Force (IIATF) on Anti-Trafficking convened to further enhance the coordinated response to potential cases of human trafficking and illegal recruitment intercepted at the airport.

The meeting brought together inter-agency members including the Department of Justice (DOJ), Dpeartment of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Bureau of Immigration (BI), Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), Province of Iloilo, Cabatuan LGU, and the DMW.

Among the key agenda were the scheduling of agency personnel to man the IIATF desk, strengthening referral and response mechanisms for trafficking and illegal recruitment cases, and identifying capacity-building and learning opportunities to further equip frontline responders.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to seek for updates on the establishment of the OFW Lounge at the Iloilo International Airport- a DMW initiative envisioned to provide departing migrant workers with a dedicated and comfortable place to rest and access frontline services.

The meeting underscored that protecting migrant workers is a shared responsibility. Through sustained coordination, clear referral mechanisms, and strengthened capacities among frontline agencies, the IIATF aims to ensure that potential victims of trafficking and illegal recruitment are promptly identified, assisted, and protected.

Together, agencies work to make every journey safer and every Filipino worker better protected.

DMW Region VI Stands with Bereaved OFW Families in Antique

ANTIQUE - The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Region VI, led by Regional Director Glenda Aligonza, visited the wake of the late AB Pagunsan in Brgy. Ubos, Valderrama, Antique, to personally extend the Department's deepest condolences, support, and solidarity to his bereaved family.

AB Pagunsan was among the Filipino crew members aboard the Antigua and Barbuda-flagged bulk carrier M/V Venturo, which was struck by a drone on 17 July 2026 while operating in the Black Sea off the coast of Ukraine.

In a separate visit, Regional Director Aligonza also paid her respects to the wake of a Filipina household worker in Barangbang, San Remigio, Antique, who passed away while onboard a flight from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, bound for Manila. The aircraft made an emergency landing in Dubai following the incident.

The deceased OFW left behind her husband and three children: their 17-year-old eldest daughter, 15-year-old son, and 7-year-old youngest child.

For DMW Region VI, these visits go beyond the provision of assistance. They are a reminder of the Department’s commitment to stand beside OFWs and their families, not only in times of opportunity, but also in their most difficult moments.

DMW Region VI shares in the grief of both families and honors the lives and sacrifices of their departed loved ones.

May their families find comfort in the love they shared, strength in one another, and hope for the days ahead.

From Overseas Worker to Entrepreneur: Krystyl Torres Stitches a New Beginning

For more than a decade, Krystyl Marie Torres dedicated herself to working overseas as a Household Service Worker (HSW) in China. From 2015 to 2026, she endured the challenges of working far from home, carrying with her the hopes of building a better future for her family.

But after years of service abroad, Krystyl decided that it was time to come home—not to stop working, but to begin anew.

Back in the Philippines, she turned her passion for crochet into an opportunity to build her own livelihood. Through her business, Crochet by Kriz, Krystyl creates handcrafted crochet pieces that reflect her creativity, patience, and determination.

To help strengthen her venture, Krystyl availed herself of the Expanded Livelihood Development Assistance Program (ELDAP) of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW). The assistance provided additional capital that helped her sustain and develop her small business as she transitioned from being an overseas worker to an entrepreneur.

Today, Crochet by Kriz operates as a home-based business. While it has yet to have a physical store, every carefully crafted piece carries a story—of an OFW who spent years working abroad and returned home determined to create a livelihood of her own.

For Krystyl, every stitch is more than just part of a crochet design. It represents patience, perseverance, and the courage to start again.

Her journey is a reminder that coming home does not have to be the end of an OFW’s story. It can be the beginning of a new chapter—one where skills, experiences, and dreams gained abroad are transformed into opportunities at home.

With determination, hard work, and the support of programs such as ELDAP, returning OFWs like Krystyl can stitch together not only beautiful creations, but also a more sustainable and hopeful future for themselves and their families.

PAVIA, ILOILO - TESDA, in partnership with the Provincial Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of Iloilo, conducted a Job Fair at Robinsons Place Pavia, with the participation of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).

DMW NIR Joins Job Fair 2026: World Café of Opportunities

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental — August 24, 2026 — The Department of Migrant Workers–Negros Island Region (DMW-NIR), joined the Job Fair 2026: World Café of Opportunities organized by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), and the Negros Occidental Provincial Government through the Provincial Public Employment Service Office (PESO) on August 24 at Ayala Malls Capitol Central, Bacolod City.

The job fair brought together jobseekers, technical-vocational education and training (TVET) graduates, participating employers, and licensed recruitment agencies, providing participants with access to employment opportunities both in the Philippines and abroad.

DMW-NIR Regional Director Glenda M. Aligonza, delivered a message of support, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to ensuring that Negrenses pursuing careers abroad are guided toward legitimate employment, safe migration, and government protection, while strengthening awareness against illegal recruitment and human trafficking.

The activity also provided an avenue for DMW-NIR to promote its programs and services for prospective and returning Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), reinforcing the government’s commitment to supporting workers throughout their migration journey.

DMW-NIR continues to work with national government agencies, local government units, employers, and recruitment partners in bringing decent employment opportunities closer to Negrenses and helping Filipino workers pursue safe, informed, and sustainable career pathways.

DMW NIR Releases ₱6.31 Million in AKSYON Fund Assistance to OFW Beneficiaries

The Department of Migrant Workers–Negros Island Region (DMW-NIR) continues to uphold its commitment to protecting the welfare and supporting the needs of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families through the release of ₱6,310,000.00 in AKSYON Fund assistance to qualified beneficiaries.

The distribution of assistance was conducted from August 17 to 20, 2026, in Bacolod City, benefiting a total of 115 OFWs and their qualified beneficiaries from across the Negros Island Region.

The assistance covers various forms of support under the AKSYON Fund, including financial, medical, and burial assistance, providing much-needed aid to qualified OFWs and their families during times of financial hardship, medical emergencies, and bereavement.

More than financial support, the AKSYON Fund represents the DMW’s continuing commitment to ensuring that no OFW or family is left behind in times of need. Through these interventions, the Department brings government assistance closer to migrant workers and their families—providing not only immediate relief, but also a reminder that the sacrifices of our modern-day heroes are recognized, valued, and supported.

As the distribution continues, DMW NIR remain steadfast in delivering responsive, accessible, and compassionate services to OFWs and their families across the region.
