LOOK || ICPO Top Cop Orders Immediate Action on Viral Firecracker Incidents Involving Alleged Minors in Jaro and Mandurriao
ILOILO CITY โ Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) has ordered the immediate investigation and appropriate action following the circulation of viral videos showing two separate groups of alleged minors firing firecrackers at each other in Jaro and Mandurriao districts.
Police Colonel Kim P. Legada, City Director of ICPO, directed concerned police stations and units to identify the individuals involved, coordinate with barangay officials and parents, and strictly enforce laws and ordinances regulating the use of firecrackers, particularly those involving minors.
Colonel Legada emphasized that such acts pose serious danger and could result in injuries or loss of life.
โThis is not a game. Firecrackers can seriously injure or kill, especially when used recklessly by minors,โ Legada said.
He clarified that while the police are firm in enforcing the law, the approach will also focus on prevention, intervention, and accountability.
โOur priority is to prevent harm and protect our children. Parents and guardians will also be held accountable if negligence is established,โ he added.
The ICPO has instructed patrol units to intensify visibility, monitoring, and patrols in residential areas as part of the Ligtas Paskuhan campaign, particularly in communities where similar incidents have been reported.
The ICPO likewise urged the public to refrain from sharing videos that may encourage copycat behavior and instead report incidents immediately to the nearest police station or through 911 or ICPO official hotlines 0908-377-0194 or 335-0299.
The ICPO reiterates its warning that the use of illegal firecrackers and allowing minors to engage in dangerous acts may result in criminal and administrative liabilities under existing laws and local ordinances.
