BindTechโELT Department successfully conducted its Intellectual Property (IP) Orientation, Patent Search, and Patent Draft Training-Workshop on November 18, 2025, at the NISU-VSC Hostel.
The activity gathered a total of 40 participants, composed of 28 selected third-year students as trainees, 7 fourth-year students as trainers, 4 faculty facilitators, and 1 faculty resource person, Dr. Larimar Araw-Araw.
The workshop aimed to strengthen studentsโ understanding of IP rights, develop competency in patent search techniques, and introduce the fundamentals of patent drafting. The selected fourth-year students, already trained in patent-related processes, served as peer trainers, ensuring a collaborative and skill-enhancing learning environment.
This activity is essential for third-year IT students who are expected to develop technologies as part of their Research 1 requirements. By equipping them with knowledge on IP protection, the institution seeks to safeguard innovative works from unauthorized use and prepare students for future technology development and commercialization.
Throughout the session, participants learned key IP concepts, identified patentable inventions, practiced prior art searches using patent databases, and drafted basic patent components including claims, abstracts, and descriptions.
The department emphasized that the initiative not only builds technical competence but also promotes a strong culture of innovation and responsible intellectual property management within the university.
The successful conduct of the activity marks another step toward enhancing NISU-VSSCโs capacity in research development, innovation, and technology protection.
