To assure the safety of its employees, promote disaster resiliency and to ensure that business operations are resumed as soon as possible after the incident, NTC Regional Office VI, headed by Dir. Jovita V. Chongco, PECE, conducted an Earthquake Evacuation Drill on July 30, 2026.

The activity was held in coordination with the Iloilo Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), led by Operation Center Chief Heman S. Saraza under the supervision of PCOL. Cornelio R. Salinas (Ret.) MPA/PESE.

The drill was staged in the threeโ€‘storey building at Brgy. Quintin Salas, Jaro, simulating a Magnitude 5.0 earthquake to test disaster preparedness and response procedures. Employees and clients executed the โ€œDrop, Cover, and Hold Onโ€ protocol. The employees also used their emergency kits, including wearing their respective safety helmets, while evacuating down the buildingโ€™s stairwell to the designated open area.

The designated Incident Commander (IC) during the said drill was Atty. Deo Virgil R. Tan. The Incident Commander has the overall responsibility for managing the exercise ensuring safety, directing operations, coordinating with staff, and declaring the start and termination of the drill. His role is central to maintaining order, accountability, and compliance with the Incident Command System (ICS)

The Search and Rescue Team was composed of Engr. John Paul Rimorin, Razel Custodio, and Engr. Diouf Daven Juntado, who served as first responders on site and implemented search and rescue protocols. Meanwhile, the Safety Officers, Engr. William Encarnacion and Eleazar Villarante, secured the structural integrity of the building after the postโ€‘shake. The appointed incident information officer was Engr. Darlie Regalado.

The event also highlighted deployment of quick search, rescue, and first-aid response for injuries including conducting a post-drill headcount and a general inspection of the facility and evaluation of the drill procedure by the PDRRMO.

NTC Region VI remains committed to providing a safe working environment and maintaining disaster readiness for the safety and welfare of its workforce and the community.

Created on 23 July 1979 through the merger of the former Board of Communications (which regulated all privately-operated telecommunications services in the Philippines, including telephony and telegraphy) and the Telecommunications Control Bureau (which oversaw all technical aspects of signal-based telecommunications and broadcasting in the Philippines, including the construction and maintenance of transmission facilities and the allocation of frequencies), the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) is the government agency responsible for the regulation of all telecommunication operations and services in the Philippines.

As an attached agency under the Ministry of Public Works, Transportation and Communication, the NTC provisionally adopted in toto the seal of its parent agency, the principal charge of which included a radio transmitter tower from which two stylized lightning bolts, representing radio signals, emanated on either side. However, said symbol, which was universally understood to pertain to radio signals during the 1930s up until the postwar period, had become outdated by the 1990s, as the public consensus as to what the lightning bolt connotes shifted from (electronic) radio signals into that of electricity and its hazardous effects. Furthermore, the exponential technological advancements of the late 20th and the early 21st centuries expanded the scope of the NTCโ€™s regulatory mandate to other forms of telecommunication, such as the Internet (1995), the GSM cellular network (1998) and wireless broadband (2007). By the turn of the millennium, the adoption of a new logo-cum-seal was in order.

The redesigned seal, adopted circa the 1990s, went for a heavily simplified, geometric approach: the transmitter tower with its โ€œlightningโ€ radio signals was replaced with a simple Y-shape, representing a stylized dipole transceiver antenna (the most basic yet one of the most effective among all forms of antennae) with two concentric circles representing the transmission of radio signals in an omnidirectional โ€œripple effectโ€ pattern. The fields formed by the spaces in between the Y-shaped antennaโ€™s arms are colored white, blue, and red, directly taken from the National Flag of the Philippines and arranged in the same manner as how they appear therein, denote the NTCโ€™s national jurisdiction, encompassing Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Alternatively, these three colors also represent the NTCโ€™s threefold mandate of regulation, monitoring and supervision over the three major modes of telecommunication: end-to-end telephony (wired and cellular transmission) broadcasting (radio and television), and the internet.

Since then, NTC has served as the country's principal regulatory agency for telecommunications and radio communications, ensuring the efficient management of the radio frequency spectrum, promoting reliable communication services, and safeguarding the interests of the public.

For 47 years, NTC has remained steadfast in carrying out this mandate with integrity, professionalism, and excellence. As we commemorate this milestone, we honor the dedication of our past and present personnel, as well as the invaluable support of our partners and stakeholders, whose collective efforts continue to strengthen the communications sector.

Happy 47th Anniversary, National Telecommunications Commission. May we continue to uphold our legacy of service and remain committed to fostering innovation, connectivity, and nation-building for generations to come.
