Justice Delivered: 79IB Neutralizes 19 CTG Remnants, Captures Assorted Assault Rifles in NegOcc Clashes
The Armyโs 79th Infantry Battalion under the 303rd Infantry Brigade delivered a major setback to the dismantled Northern Negros Front (NNF), Komiteng Rehiyon-Negros of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG), resulting in the neutralization of 19 remnants and the capture of assorted assault rifles during a series of encounters on Sunday, April 19, 2026, in Toboso, Negros Occidental.
The first clash erupted at around 3:58 a.m. in Sitio Sinugmawan, Barangay Salamanca, Toboso, while troops were conducting combat operations based on reliable information from a concerned citizen regarding the presence of armed NNF remnants in the area.
This encounter led to the seizure of an assault rifle, two rifle gr***des, one hand gr***de, bandoliers, 20 hammocks, backpacks, food supplies, and other personal belongings. One soldier sustained two gunshot wounds to his left and right arms but is now in stable condition.
Pursuit operations following the initial encounter by the 79IB against the fleeing CTG remnants led to seven consecutive clashes at Sitio Plariding in the same barangay. These firefights, lasting between 10 and 35 minutes each, resulted in the neutralization of 19 remnants, whose bodies were recovered from the sites. Troops also seized assorted assault rifles. The identities of the slain NPAs are yet to be determined.
The leadership of the 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division(3ID) commended the operating troops of the 79IB for their successful operation. They further attributed the success of the military operations to the vigilance and cooperation of the local populace, whose fervent desire for CTG-free communities played a vital role in the downfall of the NNF remnants.
โWe commend the bravery and determination of our operating troops, as well as the vigilance and cooperation of the Negrenses, whose steadfast commitment to CTG-free communities greatly contributed to this victory. These combat operationsโbacked by reliable information and executed with precisionโare part of the Armyโs continuing efforts in Negros to neutralize all remnants of the CTG and achieve total victory in the fight against insurgency. These efforts are directed at ending the CTGโs atrocities and killings once and for all, delivering justice to their victims, and ensuring lasting peace for the communities they once terrorized,โ said Major General Michael G Samson, Commander, 3ID.
MGen. Samson further reiterated his call to the remaining NPAs in Negros to return to the folds of the law while there is still time, warning them to avoid the same misfortune and death suffered by their comrades in recent encounters. He urged them to abandon armed struggle, embrace peace, and avail themselves of the governmentโs Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP).
โWe do not rejoice whenever lives are lost, but we cannot prevent such tragedies, as they are the consequence of taking up arms and fighting against the government. Hence, we reiterate our call to the remaining NPAs in Negros to return to the folds of the law to avoid unnecessary misfortune and death. Problems and issues can always be resolved peacefully, without the pointless loss of lives. Lay down your arms, avail of E-CLIP, and start a new and peaceful life with your loved ones. The path of violence leads only to suffering, but the path of peace offers hope, justice, and a future worth living,โ the 3ID Commander added.
