Held on ๐๐๐น๐ ๐ฎ๐ด, ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฒ, the session created a space for meaningful dialogue on the ways Indigenous communities understand ๐ซ๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐ช๐ค๐ฆ, ๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ข๐ญ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ, ๐ณ๐ฆ๐ค๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ค๐ช๐ญ๐ช๐ข๐ต๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ, ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐ค๐ฐ๐ญ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ค๐ต๐ช๐ท๐ฆ ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ณ๐บ through the lens of their own histories, traditions, and lived experiences. The session was facilitated by ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ณ. ๐๐ผ๐ต๐ป ๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ๐ฟ๐ผ ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐, who guided participants through conversations on Indigenous knowledge systems, customary practices, and community-based approaches to peacebuilding.
Among the featured sharers were ๐๐ถ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐๐ผ๐ฟ ๐๐ฏ๐ฒ๐น๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฑ๐ผ ๐ ๐ผ๐๐ฎ, director of ๐ฃ๐ฎ๐ธ๐ถ๐ด๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ถ๐, ๐๐ป๐ฐ., and ๐๐ฎ๐๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ป๐ฒ๐น๐ถ๐ผ ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ป๐ด๐ฐ๐ผ๐ฎ๐ป, a respected Higa-onon tribal leader, whose participation underscored the importance of ensuring that Indigenous communities remain at the forefront of conversations on ๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ข๐ค๐ฆ๐ฃ๐ถ๐ช๐ญ๐ฅ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ, ๐ด๐ฆ๐ญ๐ง-๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ต๐ฆ๐ณ๐ฎ๐ช๐ฏ๐ข๐ต๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ, ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐ด๐ฐ๐ค๐ช๐ข๐ญ ๐ต๐ณ๐ข๐ฏ๐ด๐ง๐ฐ๐ณ๐ฎ๐ข๐ต๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ.
Drawing upon their experiences as Indigenous leaders, the speakers emphasized the importance of recognizing ๐๐ฏ๐ฅ๐ช๐จ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ด ๐ด๐บ๐ด๐ต๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ด ๐ฐ๐ง ๐จ๐ฐ๐ท๐ฆ๐ณ๐ฏ๐ข๐ฏ๐ค๐ฆ, ๐ค๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ข๐ณ๐บ ๐ญ๐ข๐ธ๐ด, ๐ต๐ณ๐ข๐ฅ๐ช๐ต๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ข๐ญ ๐ค๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ง๐ญ๐ช๐ค๐ต ๐ณ๐ฆ๐ด๐ฐ๐ญ๐ถ๐ต๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ค๐ฉ๐ข๐ฏ๐ช๐ด๐ฎ๐ด, ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐ข๐ฏ๐ค๐ฆ๐ด๐ต๐ณ๐ข๐ญ ๐ฌ๐ฏ๐ฐ๐ธ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฆ ๐ด๐บ๐ด๐ต๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ด as essential elements of transitional justice. Their insights also highlighted the continuing efforts of Indigenous communities to safeguard their ancestral domains, preserve their cultural heritage, and strengthen their participation in decision-making processes that affect their communities. More importantly, the session drew attention to the experiences of ๐ก๐ผ๐ป-๐ ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ผ ๐๐ป๐ฑ๐ถ๐ด๐ฒ๐ป๐ผ๐๐ ๐ฃ๐ฒ๐ผ๐ฝ๐น๐ฒ๐ (๐ก๐ ๐๐ฃ๐) in Mindanao and the need to create spaces where their histories, struggles, and aspirations can be meaningfully represented. Participants were encouraged to reflect on how Indigenous perspectives can contribute to more ๐ช๐ฏ๐ค๐ญ๐ถ๐ด๐ช๐ท๐ฆ, ๐ค๐ถ๐ญ๐ต๐ถ๐ณ๐ข๐ญ๐ญ๐บ ๐ณ๐ฆ๐ด๐ฑ๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ด๐ช๐ท๐ฆ, ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐ค๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ฏ๐ช๐ต๐บ-๐ค๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ต๐ฆ๐ณ๐ฆ๐ฅ ๐ข๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ณ๐ฐ๐ข๐ค๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ด ๐ต๐ฐ ๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ข๐ค๐ฆ๐ฃ๐ถ๐ช๐ญ๐ฅ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ.
Beyond highlighting the experiences of NMIPs, the session also underscored the relevance of the ๐จ๐ป๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ก๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ ๐ฆ๐๐๐๐ฎ๐ถ๐ป๐ฎ๐ฏ๐น๐ฒ ๐๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐น๐ผ๐ฝ๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐ ๐๐ผ๐ฎ๐น๐ (๐ฆ๐๐๐), particularly ๐ฆ๐๐ ๐ญ๐ฒ (๐ฃ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ฒ, ๐๐๐๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฒ, ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ฆ๐๐ฟ๐ผ๐ป๐ด ๐๐ป๐๐๐ถ๐๐๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐) and ๐ฆ๐๐ ๐ญ๐ณ (๐ฃ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐๐ป๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ฝ๐ ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐ผ๐ฎ๐น๐). Discussions on Indigenous rights, representation, collective memory, and community-based approaches to reconciliation emphasized the importance of building more inclusive and responsive institutions while ensuring that Indigenous communities remain active participants in peacebuilding processes. At the same time, the participation of Indigenous leaders, faculty members, peace practitioners, civil society organizations, and international delegates highlighted the value of ๐ด๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐ข๐ช๐ฏ๐ฆ๐ฅ ๐ฑ๐ข๐ณ๐ต๐ฏ๐ฆ๐ณ๐ด๐ฉ๐ช๐ฑ๐ด ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐ค๐ฐ๐ญ๐ญ๐ข๐ฃ๐ฐ๐ณ๐ข๐ต๐ช๐ท๐ฆ ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐จ๐ข๐จ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ต in advancing more inclusive and locally grounded approaches to peacebuilding.
