Every community has challenges. The key is finding solutions that fit its needs.
For the Local Government Unit of Matungao, this meant taking a closer look at its development priorities and exploring how science, technology, and innovation can help address them.
On August 18โ19, DOST Lanao del Norte guided 21 LGU Matungao personnel through a two-day Proposal Writeshop on Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology (CEST) Program and Smart and Sustainable Communities Program (SCCP) at the Municipal Building. The activity helped participants identify priority concerns, match them with appropriate DOST interventions, and develop project proposals based on their Comprehensive Development Plan and Local Development Investment Program.
The proposed projects cover practical needs in disaster preparedness, health services, education, livelihood, and digital governance. Among them are a municipal radio communication system for emergencies, improved electronic health records, solar-powered STARBOOKS kiosks for schools, a community feedmill, an integrated LGU digital database, and a digital mapping system.
More than writing proposals, the writeshop helped turn identified community needs into concrete project ideas that can be further developed and pursued.
Through CEST and SSCP, DOST continues to work alongside LGUs in finding science-based solutions that respond to real community needs.
When local priorities meet the right science and technology, better solutions can take shape.
