In a significant stride towards bolstering grassroots governance, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Iligan City has concluded the Barangay Newly Elected Officials (BNEO) for Grassroots Renewal and Empowerment for Accountable and Transparent (GREAT) Barangays Program with its third batch last March 6 to 8, 2024, at the Chali Beach Resort and Conference Center, Cugman, Cagayan de Oro City. The said program is a transformative initiative aimed at empowering grassroots leaders with the skills and knowledge needed to drive transparent, accountable, and community-focused governance.
The BNEO for GREAT Barangays Program was conducted in three (3) batches, with each batch undergoing a series of training sessions, workshops, and practical exercises. The program's holistic approach aims to create a network of empowered barangay officials committed to fostering positive change, building stronger communities, and contributing to the overall development of Iligan City.
Throughout the program, barangay officials engaged in comprehensive reviews of governance principles, sharing best practices, and strategizing for the future of their barangays. Emphasis was placed on promoting ethical leadership, fostering community participation, and utilizing technology for efficient and transparent governance.
The training sessions were meticulously designed to cover a spectrum of essential aspects, including leadership development and integration of community engagement strategies into local governance. Through comprehensive reviews and interactive workshops, officials delved into the intricacies of strategic planning, fostering a collective understanding of their roles in driving sustainable development at the grassroots level.
In addition to theoretical knowledge, participants also had the opportunity to engage in practical exercises and role-playing scenarios, allowing them to apply their learning in real-life situations. Workshops on conflict resolution, financial management, and community engagement provided officials with invaluable tools to address the diverse challenges facing their barangays.
The training concluded with a culmination ceremony, where participants received certificates of completion and were commended for their commitment to enhancing governance in their respective barangays. The event served as a testament to the dedication and hard work of the newly empowered barangay officials.
The collaborative nature of the program was further underscored during sessions where officials shared their experiences, challenges, and success stories. This exchange of insights created a robust support network among participants, emphasizing the significance of a united front in overcoming the unique challenges faced by each barangay.
As the officials return to their respective barangays, the legacy of the BNEO Program is expected to manifest in tangible improvements in local governance, increased community engagement, and a commitment to transparency and accountability.
The completion of the third batch signifies the conclusion of the initial phase of the GREAT Barangays Program in Iligan City. Looking ahead, DILG Iligan City remains committed to providing continued support and guidance to the barangay officials, ensuring sustained progress and development at the grassroots level. Through collaboration and empowerment, the city aims to build a brighter future for all its residents, one barangay at a time. (๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ญ๐ช๐จ๐ข๐ฏ ๐๐ช๐ต๐บ | ๐. ๐๐ข๐ฐ๐ฑ๐ข๐ฏ)
