The Iligan Backpackers International will be conducting its 1st Mt. Agad-Agad Hammock Festival Night 2023 with the theme “Pakigsuod sa Kinaiyahan/ Connect with Nature” at Mt. Agad-agad, Purok Langilanon, Brgy. Pugaan, Iligan City this coming September 15-16, 2023 from 3 o’clock in the afternoon to 10 o’clock in the morning.

On this day, the Iligan Young Writer Guild- Lagantaw would like to commemorate the World Press Freedom Day.

With the advancement of technology, the media has become increasingly important in the access of information and in disseminating truthful reportage. The convenience of media usage aims to propagate in voicing out the truth of oppressed individuals unto empowerment.

World Press Freedom Day sought to inform every individual that freedom of the press is a fundamental human right and a pillar of a well-functioning democracy. A down break of press freedom leads to poor decision making and harmful outcomes for leaders and citizens.

As we celebrate this important day, may the security of media workers and journalists be heightened for their lives are at greater risk. This day is also a chance to pay tribute to brave media professionals who lost their lives in the line of duty just to give voice to the voiceless.

The Iligan Young Writers Guild- Lagantaw is committed in promoting the ability of journalists to exercise their right to freedom of the press freely and safely. More power to every journalist out there!
