TO***CO FARMERS ATTENDS LIVELIHOOD TRAINING ON MUSHROOM PRODUCTION
NTA Isabela in partnership with the Provincial Cooperative, Livelihood and Enterprise Development Office-Isabela and DA- Regional Crop Protection Center, conducted a one (1) day Livelihood Training on Mushroom Production at NTA Training Hall building on October 29, 2024. This was participated by to***co farmers under cooperatives/associations in the province.
Ms. Alicia A. Malab, OIC-Branch Manager, NTA Isabela warmly welcomed the participants of the training. Manager Malab said,
"The trainings under the Farmers Organizational Development Program (FODP) was conducted yearly to give livelihood to to***co farmers after the cropping season, mainly to have additional income". She also encouraged them to participate actively in the training to gain additional knowledge and apply to their respective coop./associations.
Mr. Cesar P. Cambas Jr.-Acting Chief Agriculturist shared also his message and Rationale of the program. He highlighted that this training would improve the living conditions of farmers, encourage them to upscale and diversify, not only depending on to***co income alone but to have additional income on mushroom production. " Sana'y magamit natin ang kasanayang ito para sa ating pang araw-araw na kabuhayan", he added.
Mr. Lovemar D. Morales-Laboratory Technician III of DA-RCPC served as the lecturer and facilitator of the mushroom seminar. Mr. Morales discussed the basics of straw mushroom production, factors affecting production and importance of mushroom. He demonstrated the step-by-step process of producing straw mushroom: gathering substrates and materials needed (banana leaves/rice straw), soaking of substrate, planting of mushroom spawn, incubation and maintenance. He also showed on how to produce straw mushroom in a plastic basket and preparation in a growing bed. With proper care and maintenance, the straw mushroom will be harvested in 14 days.
The participants were provided with growing materials (substates, spawn, rice bran) for the hands-on workshop for them to grow their own straw mushroom. *Pascual
