TO***CO FARMERS ATTENDS LIVELIHOOD TRAINING ON MUSHROOM PRODUCTION
NTA Isabela in partnership with the Provincial Cooperative, Livelihood and Enterprise Development Office-Isabela and DA- Regional Crop Protection Center, conducted a one (1) day Livelihood Training on Mushroom Production at NTA Training Hall building on October 29, 2024. This was participated by to***co farmers under cooperatives/associations in the province.
Ms. Alicia A. Malab, OIC-Branch Manager, NTA Isabela warmly welcomed the participants of the training. Manager Malab said,
"The trainings under the Farmers Organizational Development Program (FODP) was conducted yearly to give livelihood to to***co farmers after the cropping season, mainly to have additional income". She also encouraged them to participate actively in the training to gain additional knowledge and apply to their respective coop./associations.
Mr. Cesar P. Cambas Jr.-Acting Chief Agriculturist shared also his message and Rationale of the program. He highlighted that this training would improve the living conditions of farmers, encourage them to upscale and diversify, not only depending on to***co income alone but to have additional income on mushroom production. " Sana'y magamit natin ang kasanayang ito para sa ating pang araw-araw na kabuhayan", he added.
Mr. Lovemar D. Morales-Laboratory Technician III of DA-RCPC served as the lecturer and facilitator of the mushroom seminar. Mr. Morales discussed the basics of straw mushroom production, factors affecting production and importance of mushroom. He demonstrated the step-by-step process of producing straw mushroom: gathering substrates and materials needed (banana leaves/rice straw), soaking of substrate, planting of mushroom spawn, incubation and maintenance. He also showed on how to produce straw mushroom in a plastic basket and preparation in a growing bed. With proper care and maintenance, the straw mushroom will be harvested in 14 days.
The participants were provided with growing materials (substates, spawn, rice bran) for the hands-on workshop for them to grow their own straw mushroom. *Pascual

NTA Isabela conducted Synchronized Tree Planting, City of Ilagan Sanctuary serves as greening site
City of Ilagan, Isabela-
In connection with the celebration of 37th founding anniversary of the National To***co Administration, the NTA Isabela Officer-In-Charge, Ms. Alicia A. Malab spearheaded the conduct of Synchronized Tree Planting (STP) at the Ilagan Sanctuary- Sta. Victoria, City of Ilagan, Isabela on July 31, 2024.

The tree planting was in collaboration with the City Environment and Natural Resources (CENRO) Ilagan headed by Mr. Arvin A. Perez, OIC-CENRO. This was also participated by CLGU and CENRO staff, Offiicers/Members of Samahan ng To***co Farmers Agriculture Cooperative (STFAC)-Luna, Isabela, to***co farmers from Sta. Isabel Norte & Sur, City of Ilagan, Isabela/Quirino Isa., NTA scholars, and NTA Isabela staff.

During the ceremonial tree planting, Ms. Alicia A. Malab- NTA Isabela Officer-In-Charge, warmly welcome and thanked the CLGU Ilagan/ participants for their involvement in the STP program of NTA. “To mitigate climate change- the NTA usually have this Synchronized Tree Planting to minimized global warming by planting of trees, this is a yearly activity (STP) “- Ms. Malab said. She also reminded the participants to care and manage the tree seedlings planted in the sanctuary.

Mr. Elvis Bayad, Representative from CENRO Ilagan, expressed his gratitude to NTA Isabela for the donation of tree seedlings wherein it will be planted in the protected area of the Ilagan sanctuary. Mr. Bayad also mentioned that the CLGU Ilagan invested in green space- 30% portion of Sta. Victoria-Ilagan sanctuary and there are possible grants awaits the Green space.
He also shared that there are environmental concerns before such as kaingin and timber poaching in the area. Sir Elvis emphasized the planting of native/premium tree species in protected areas. “Exotic tree species such as Gmelina and Mahogany should not be planted in protected areas because there is diversion of wildlife if exotic species were planted”, Mr. Bayad said.
Climate change will persist by year 2030, there will be an increase in 1’C of temperature, he added. Mr. Bayad thanked and encouraged the participants to join in initiatives like tree planting to minimized the ill effects of climate change.

Mr. Emer C. Hernandez, STP Coordinator highlights the importance of tree growing and planting more native species to combat climate change.

This years Synchronized Tree Planting (STP) targeted and produced 120,000 tree and fruit bearing seedlings for distribution to interested individuals and organizations to restore the environment and minimized global warming brought by climate change. STP project also gave livelihood opportunity for seedling growers. ( *P)
