Troops Recover CTG Arms Cache in Samar, Further Weakening Insurgent Capability
Joint troops from the 87th Infantry Battalion and the 804th Maneuver Company, Regional Mobile Force Battalion 8 (RMFB8), recovered an arms cache belonging to the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) in Sitio Galutan, Barangay Can-aponte, San Jose de Buan, Samar, on 29 May 2026.
The operating troops seized two AK-47 assault rifles with two magazines, two M16A1 rifles, and one M203 gr***de launcher. The successful operation further reduced the CTG’s armed capability and denied the group resources that could have been used to threaten communities and disrupt development efforts.
Authorities attributed the recovery to information voluntarily provided by former rebels and concerned citizens, highlighting the growing support of local communities for government peace and development initiatives. Continued community cooperation has significantly weakened the CTG’s recruitment, intelligence, and logistical networks while limiting its freedom of movement in Samar.
The recovery also underscores the effectiveness of the Whole-of-Nation Approach, as security forces, local government units, national agencies, former rebels, and community members work together to sustain peace and development in Eastern Visayas.
The 8th Infantry Division reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening community engagement, protecting communities, and supporting programs that promote lasting peace, security, and prosperity throughout the region.
