City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Himamaylan City has reached a significant milestone after being recognized as a Silver Awardee and Fully Compliant during the prestigious Gawad KALASAG evaluation conducted by the Office of the Civil Defense Negros Island Region.

The recognition, awarded yesterday, highlights the officeโ€™s unwavering service, steadfast commitment, and remarkable accomplishments in advancing disaster preparedness and resilience within the city.

The awarding ceremony was attended by Sangguniang Panlungsod Member Hon. Jacinto B. Castillo and CDRRMO Research and Planning Section Chief Joefil C. Sombilon, who proudly represented the city. Their presence underscored the collaborative effort behind the achievement, reflecting the dedication of the entire LDRRM Council in strengthening policies, programs, and community-based initiatives that ensure public safety and disaster readiness.

This accomplishment was made possible through the strong support of Mayor Rogelio Raymund I. Tongson Jr., alongside city officials and members of the LDRRM Council. The recognition not only celebrates past efforts but also reinforces Himamaylanโ€™s commitment to building a safer, more resilient community, one that continues to prioritize the well being of its people in the face of evolving risks and challenges.

EARTH HOUR 2026 ๐ŸŒ ๐Ÿ’ก

This yearโ€™s Earth Hour brings together communities, institutions, and advocates to support practical and locally driven solutions for energy and climate challenges.

Join us later tonight for Earth Hour 2026 at the Provincial Capitol Lagoon from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

At 8:30 PM, letโ€™s switch off non-essential lights and come together for a meaningful night of performances and reflection. This is more than a symbolic actโ€”it is a reminder that small actions, when done together, can create a big impact for our planet.

We also encourage everyone to turn off non-essential lights in your homes from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM and be part of this global movement.

Sa isa ka oras nga pagpatay sang non-essential lights, ginapakita naton ang aton pagpakigbahin sa pag-amlig sang kalibutan kag paghiusa para sa mas masanyog nga palaabuton.

Students, teachers, and emergency responders participated in the 1st Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill held on March 12, 2026, at exactly 3:30 PM.

The activity was spearheaded by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office in coordination with the Philippine National Police, the Bureau of Fire Protection, and the 542nd Engineering Battalion. The drill aimed to strengthen earthquake preparedness and ensure that both students and school personnel are ready to respond effectively in the event of a real hazard.

The activity took place at Raymundo T. Tongson National High School Main in Barangay Talaban, which served as the pilot school for the exercise. During the drill, participants observed the phases of the drill, particularly the standard โ€œDuck, Cover, and Holdโ€ procedure and followed evacuation protocols guided by teachers and emergency responders.

The simulation helped demonstrate how coordinated actions among students, faculty, and response teams can reduce risks and ensure safety during earthquakes.

Officials emphasized that earthquake drills are essential in building awareness and preparedness within schools and communities. By conducting regular simulations such as the Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill, authorities hope to strengthen disaster response capabilities and encourage everyone to stay alert and ready in times of natural hazards.
