𝙂𝙪𝙞𝙣𝙤𝙗𝙖𝙩𝙖𝙣, 𝘼𝙡𝙗𝙖𝙮 – A total of 997 beneficiaries from various barangays in the municipality of Guinobatan received assistance amounting to ₱4,536,350.00 through a cash payout under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged (TUPAD) Workers, on Friday, following Labor Secretary Francis N. Tolentino’s directive of strengthened response to ashfall impacts from Mayon Volcano unrest.
The assistance was provided as an intervention to the displaced workers and disrupted livelihood of the residents caused by the severe ashfall. Through the program, affected and disadvantaged workers were provided with temporary employment to help augment their income and support their families during the period of recovery.
Each beneficiary received ₱4,550.00 equivalent to ten (10) days of work, which covered various non-hazardous community-based activities aimed at addressing the effects of the ashfall. These included community clean-ups and clearing activities, removal and collection of volcanic ash and debris, cleaning of roads and public spaces, clearing of drainage systems, waste management, and other activities necessary to help restore and maintain cleanliness and safety in affected communities.
The participation of the beneficiaries contributed to the immediate rehabilitation of areas affected by ashfall, particularly those requiring cleaning and clearing of accumulated volcanic ash. These efforts helped improve the cleanliness and accessibility of public areas, reduce potential health and safety hazards, and support the ongoing recovery efforts of the affected communities.
The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the temporary employment and financial assistance provided through the program during the challenging period.
One of them, Jesusa P. Suarez of Barangay Masarawag, shared that despite being affected by the Mayon ashfall, the opportunity to work under TUPAD helped her family cope with the situation.
“Maraming salamat po sa programa ng DOLE na TUPAD dahil ako po ay isa sa mga naging benipisyaryo at nagkaroon ng pagkakataon na makapagtrabaho sa aming barangay kahit na kami ay naapektuhan ng Mayon Ashfall, malaking tulong po ito sa aking pamilya,” she said. [END] JVEG/CMS
