Sweet Success: 71 Students Ace National Assessment in Bread and Pastry Production

The aroma of freshly baked success filled the air at Jose Abad Santos National High School as 71 Grade 12 students officially proved their mettle in the culinary arts. From March 18 to March 25, 2026, the school’s Bread and Pastry Production (BPP) Laboratory transformed into a high-stakes arena for the National Assessment. Under the watchful eyes of TESDA personnel from Davao Occidental, students from the Gmelina and Acacia sections put their years of training to the ultimate test, aiming to secure their professional certifications in a field that demands both precision and passion.

Consequently, the rigorous week-long evaluation focused on the technical mastery required to thrive in a commercial kitchen. Guided by the dedicated facilitation of Mam Erma Mitos R. Estremos, the candidates from Grade 12 Gmelina, Grade 12 Acacia, and Grade 12 Yakal (ALS) showcased the culmination of their Senior High School journey. This assessment was not merely a formality but a comprehensive demonstration of skills, ranging from complex dough fermentation to the delicate art of petit fours. The laboratory buzzed with a focused energy as each student worked against the clock to meet the exacting standards set by the national regulatory body.

In addition to technical ex*****on, the assessors highlighted several best practices that were significantly performed throughout the week. The students did not just bake; they curated experiences by meticulously evaluating the appearance, texture, taste, and presentation of every loaf and pastry produced. Furthermore, the TESDA evaluators noted a commendable commitment to professional hygiene and safety standards, ensuring that the workspace remained as pristine as the final products. It was this holistic approach to food service—balancing flavor with strict sanitary protocols—that truly set the cohort apart during their individual demonstrations.

Owing to this high level of preparation, the results brought a wave of pride to the entire campus community. The assessors delivered a glowing overall impression, announcing a 100% passing rate for all 71 examinees. This achievement was bolstered by the unwavering support of their class advisers, Mr. Syrelle B. Cimagala for Gmelina and Mam Rinde Lou S. Castro for Acacia, and Mam Mertyl Bonjoc for Yakal (ALS) who provided the necessary morale and guidance leading up to the evaluation. The students' victory serves as a testament to the school's robust TVL track and its ability to produce industry-ready graduates.

Ultimately, this milestone was made possible through the administrative backbone of the institution. Under the full support of School Principal I, Mr. Leonard John Mark P. Baway, and Assistant Principal Mr. Salvador Jr. E. Burgos, the BPP program has flourished into a beacon of vocational excellence. As these 71 newly certified individuals prepare to enter the workforce or pursue higher education, they carry with them the "National Certificate" seal of quality. Their journey from the classroom to the professional kitchen stands as a shining example of how dedication and institutional support can bake a recipe for lifelong success.

Pristine Performance: 63 JASNHS Seniors Sweep Housekeeping National Assessment

JOSE ABAD SANTOS, DAVAO OCCIDENTAL — In a resounding display of technical mastery and professional grit, 63 Grade 12 students from Jose Abad Santos National High School (JASNHS) successfully conquered the National Assessment for Housekeeping NC II. Held from March 18 to March 24, 2026, the week-long evaluation saw a 100% passing rate, as every candidate proved their mettle before the rigorous eyes of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) provincial assessors.

The Housekeeping Laboratory of JASNHS was transformed into a high-stakes arena of hospitality, where students demonstrated the "Best Practices" that have become the hallmark of the school’s TVL track. Candidates showcased impeccable grooming and hygiene, paired with a sophisticated command of standard operating procedures. From the precise tucking of bed linens to the meticulous use of cleaning agents, the students balanced speed with an unwavering attention to detail, earning high praise from the TESDA officials for their environmental awareness and safety-first mindset.

Behind the scenes, the success was fueled by a dedicated support system led by Mr. Carlo L. Segovia, the Housekeeping instructor and assessment facilitator. Mr. Segovia’s role was pivotal, ensuring that every piece of equipment was functional and every student was mentally prepared through thorough orientations. The emotional and academic backbone of the cohort was further strengthened by the tireless efforts of the two class advisers, whose constant encouragement kept student morale high during the grueling multi-day schedule.

The achievement also highlights the robust administrative backing of the institution. School Principal Mr. Leonard John Mark P. Baway and Assistant School Principal Mr. Salvador Jr. E. Burgos provided the necessary resources and leadership to ensure the facility met national standards. This collaborative "village" approach—comprising instructors, advisers, and administrators—proved to be the winning formula for the students as they transitioned from classroom learners to certified industry professionals.

As the final results were announced, the TESDA assessors expressed their deep impression of the group’s overall professionalism and communication skills. For these 63 newly minted National Certificate II (NC II) holders, the certificate is more than just paper; it is a passport to the global hospitality industry. With their successful assessment now complete, these JASNHS seniors stand ready to bring their "pristine" skills to hotels and resorts across the region and beyond.

🌧️ 𝐖𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐄𝐗𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐑: 𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐈𝐒 𝐀 𝐒𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐑 𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐄?

A 𝐒𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐑 𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐄 is a narrow zone in the atmosphere where winds suddenly change direction or speed.
This usually happens when two different air masses meet — like:

🌬️ Cooler winds from the Amihan (Northeast Monsoon)
+
🌊 Warm, moist winds from the Pacific

➡️ When these winds collide, they create unstable weather.

⚠️ Important:

It’s NOT a typhoon or storm, but it can still bring:
☁️ Cloud formation
🌧️ Scattered to heavy rains
⛈️ Thunderstorms
🌊 Possible flash floods
⛰️ Landslides (if rain is prolonged)

Shear lines are common during the 𝐀𝐦𝐢𝐡𝐚𝐧 season and usually affect eastern and coastal areas of the Philippines.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
🌍 𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓’𝐒 𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐈𝐍 𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐃𝐀𝐍𝐀𝐎 𝐓𝐎𝐃𝐀𝐘 (Feb 20, 2026)
According to PAGASA:

📍 A 𝐒𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐑 𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐄 is currently affecting the eastern sections of Visayas and Mindanao.

Affected areas may experience:
🌥️ Cloudy skies
🌧️ Scattered rains
⛈️ Isolated thunderstorms

Regions include:
• Caraga
• Davao Region
• Northern Mindanao
• SOCCSKSARGEN
• BARMM

⚠️ Some areas may experience moderate to heavy rainfall, which could lead to flash floods or landslides, especially in vulnerable locations.

Meanwhile, the 𝐀𝐦𝐢𝐡𝐚𝐧 continues to affect Luzon and parts of Visayas, bringing cloudy and rainy weather.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🌧️ 𝐈𝐍 𝐒𝐈𝐌𝐏𝐋𝐄 𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐌𝐒:

Shear line = “wind collision zone” in the sky that triggers rain and storms.
Mindanao’s weather today = heavier local showers and thunderstorms because that zone is nearby.
Stay safe and keep monitoring updates. ☔

Heads Held High: 12-Almaciga Hairdressing Students Begin Work Immersion Journey

JOSE ABAD SANTOS, DAVAO OCCIDENTAL — The air was thick with a mix of nervous energy and professional pride as 16 students from Grade 12-Almaciga officially stepped out of the classroom and into the professional world. Clad in their lavender scrubs and ready to put years of theoretical training to the test, these aspiring stylists began their Work Immersion program on January 26, 2026. This pivotal transition marks the beginning of their final hurdle before graduation, transforming them from senior high students into industry-ready practitioners of TVL Hairdressing.

The commencement of the immersion was highlighted by a formal Students-Parents Orientation held at the Jose Abad Santos National High School pavilion. Under the guidance of their Major Subject Teacher and SHS Focal Person, Genevieve M. Baunto, and supported by their dedicated Class Adviser, Charmaine Ann Bangcog, the students were reminded that this experience is more than just a curriculum requirement. It is a real-world stage where their skills in hair styling, chemical treatments, and customer relations will be sharpened through actual labor and professional discipline.

The success of the program’s rollout is the result of strong administrative backing. Leading the initiative are Principal I Leonard John Mark P. Baway and Assistant to the Principal Salvador E. Burgos Jr., who both emphasized the importance of community partnerships in vocational education. Head Teacher I Antonio D. Alberca also played a key role in ensuring that the 16 student-participants are placed in environments where they can truly excel and represent the school's standards of excellence.

As of this week, the work immersion is officially ongoing, with students reporting to their respective partner establishments. From mastering the perfect blowout to understanding the chemistry behind hair coloring, the Grade 12-Almaciga cohort is gaining hands-on insights that no textbook can provide. The students are not just learning how to handle shears and combs; they are learning the value of punctuality, the art of conversation, and the resilience required in the competitive beauty industry.

With several weeks of immersion still ahead, the journey of these 16 students is just beginning to unfold. As they trade their school desks for salon chairs, the Jose Abad Santos National High School community watches with pride, confident that these young hairdressers will return not just with completed logbooks, but with the confidence to style their own futures.

Keep shining, Grade 12-Almaciga! Your journey to becoming industry professionals is well underway. ✨
