STRENGTHENING MARITIME SECURITY THROUGH COORDINATION AND PARTNERSHIP

The Commander, Maritime Security Law Enforcement Group – Southern Mindanao (MARSLEG-SM), together with personnel of the Sea Marshal Unit – Southern Mindanao (SMU-SM), rendered a courtesy call to Mr. Rey F. Gaceta, owner of M/V Rock Island Ferries-1, at Barangay Tambler, General Santos City.

The courtesy call underscored the importance of strengthened coordination, cooperation, and partnership between the Philippine Coast Guard and the vessel’s management in promoting maritime safety, security, and law enforcement. It further emphasized the need for sustained communication and collaboration before, during, and after every voyage, ensuring the safety and security of passengers, crew, cargo, and the vessel.

Through strengthened public-private partnership and proactive engagement with maritime stakeholders, MARSLEG-SM and SMU-SM remain committed to safeguarding the maritime domain and ensuring safe and secure sea transportation within their area of responsibility.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊: On 31 March 2026, the Maritime Law Enforcement Group – Southern Mindanao (MARSLEG-SM) formally received one (1) brand-new computer set from Air Cavalier’s Credit Cooperative (ACCC) during a turnover ceremony held at the ACCC Office, General Santos City Branch.

The donation was facilitated by Mrs. Sheryl S. Magbanua, ACCC Gensan Branch Manager, as part of the organization’s continued support to the Philippine Coast Guard in strengthening its operational capabilities.

During the activity, MARSLEG-SM conveyed its sincere appreciation to Air Cavalier’s Credit Cooperative for its generosity and commitment to supporting maritime security and law enforcement efforts. The donated equipment is expected to enhance administrative and operational efficiency, thereby contributing to the effective performance of the unit’s mandated functions.

This initiative highlights the importance of strong collaboration between partner institutions in promoting a more capable and responsive maritime security force.

LOOK: On 19 February 2026, Commander, Maritime Security Law Enforcement Group Southern Mindanao (MARSLEG-SM) conducted a comprehensive Troops Information and Education session for the newly reported personnel of Coast Guard District Southern Mindanao (CGDSM) as part of their Pre-Deployment Training (Class 06-2026) aboard HCGDSM.

The Maritime Security Law Enforcement Group–Southern Mindanao (MARSLEG-SM) Boarding Team carried out a Unified Inspection for maritime safety, security, and marine environmental protection aboard MV Rock Island Ferries-1 at Makar Wharf, Barangay Labangal, General Santos City, in coordination with Coast Guard Sub-Station Makar, the Marine Environmental Protection Group–Southern Mindanao (MEPERG-SM), and the Maritime Safety Services Unit–Southern Mindanao (MSSU-SM).

This unified inspection initiative seeks to address procedural gaps and inconsistencies, promote operational cohesion, and further enhance the effectiveness of maritime law enforcement operations.

Moreover, this initiative underscores that maritime safety, security, and marine environmental protection are collective responsibilities, reaffirming the Philippine Coast Guard's commitment to ensuring safer seas for all vessels within the Philippine Maritime Domain.
