“Last year, I said we’d figure everything out together, and we did.”
— Mae Honey Jade Real, outgoing Editor‑in‑Chief
On June 30 at G Family Resort, Mae Honey Jade Real closed her term as Editor‑in‑Chief of the Paragon, the official student publication of Gensantos Foundation College, Inc. (GFI), with pride, gratitude, and a strong vision for the future.
Real is now a graduate from the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in Marketing Management (BSBA-MM), and her journey in the Paragon started from 2022 to 2025, taking on multiple roles not just as associate editor for two years, but also as an all-rounder writer and photojournalist. On her second time being an associate, she was offered to be the next EIC but she refused the role stating that she wasn’t ready.
She then became the Editor-in-Chief of Editorial Year 2024-2025. Her versatility, consistency, and dedication earned her a legacy of leadership that maintained the publication’s standing.
“I am proud and grateful for having you in doing so…from being dormant to one of the most active,” Real said.
She then highlighted the importance of responding thoughtfully, not reacting immediately when challenges arise.
“For the next editorial year, I hope na kapag may problem, do not immediately react. What you have to do is to respond, always.”
Real also looked back at the publication’s active role during big events like PADUWA and PRISAA, noting how timely coverage helped establish the publication’s most active and dynamic year yet.
Succeeding her is Ljae Natino, the newly appointed Editor-in-Chief for Editorial Year 2025–2026. She is a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy student that became an associate editor for three years.
With teary eyes and a humble tone, Natino recalled her beginnings in journalism, admitting that her only goal back then was to improve her writing and put her skills to good use.
“Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d be the one leading it one day,” she shared.
She went on to emphasize the importance of humility over recognition, stating, “It’s okay if you’re not recognized all the time. What matters more is that you keep growing.”
Natino concluded her speech by affirming her purpose as a campus journalist.
“Now I know why I became one. I’ve tied myself to a purpose: to write not just for myself, but for others, for truth, and for growth.”
Symbolizing the formal turnover of responsibilities, the outgoing editorial board passed this year’s magazine issue to the incoming Editor-in-Chief, a symbolic moment that marked the beginning of the Paragon’s Silver Year.
The ceremony ended in high spirits, with members sharing a meal, swimming, and creating new memories that warmly ushered in the next chapter of the Paragon. Under Natino’s lead, the publication is set to carry forward the legacy.
