UNITY IN ACTION ๐Ÿคœ๐Ÿค›

The Marine Environmental Protection Enforcement and Response Group Southern Mindanao (MEPERG-SM) under the leadership of LTJG IRENE DR FLORES PCG, Commander, MEPERG-SM, through the Marine Environmental Protection Enforcement and Response Unit โ€“ General Santos (MEPERU-GENSAN), successfully conducted a Coastal Cleanup Drive along the shores of Lower Makar, Barangay Labangal today 28 January 2026, aimed at promoting environmental protection and community responsibility.

Spearheaded by ENS JASON L CALAMBA PCG, Acting Commander, MEPERU-GENSAN, PCG personnel worked hand-in-hand together with the dedicated men and women of CGDSM, CGS, Local Government Officials, and community volunteers of Barangay Labangal.

The activity resulted in the collection of 30 sacks/bags of assorted debris, preventing marine litter from entering the coastal and marine environment.

More than a cleanup effort, the activity reinforced the importance of collective action in safeguarding our seas for present and future generations.

The MEPERG-SM extends its sincere appreciation to all CGDSM personnel, partners, and volunteers who contributed to the success of this activity.

Indeed, small actionsโ€”when done togetherโ€”create lasting impact

On 10 0600H October 2025, a significant environmental initiative took place in Sitio Lower Lasang, Poblacion Malapatan Sarangani Province as the MEPERG-SM (Marine Environmental Protection Enforcement and Response Group Southern Mindanao) through MEPERU-Eastern Saranganin Province (Marine Environmental Protection Enforcement and Response Unit Eastern Sarangani Province) spearheaded a joint declogging and mangrove planting activity.

This vital efforts was conducted in strong collaboration with multiple government and community stakeholders, highlightning a unified commitment to coastal protection and ecosystem health in the area.

The success of the clean-up and planting activity was made possible by he concerted efforts of the various agencies and groups including ; MENRO POBLACION , CGS MALAPATAN , CGS LUN PADIDU , CENRO , SBPS , BANTAY DAGAT , MARITIME POLICE, Barangay Officials and local communities.

The planting of two hundred (200) PIAPI ๐ŸŒฑ seedling across a 300 sqm area contributes directly to the rehabilitation and expansion of the mangrove forest in Poblacion Malapatan. Mangroves are critical to the Sarangani Bay ecosystem, serving as: Natural barriers against storms surges and coastal erosion ; Nursery grounds and habitat for various marine life, supporting local fisheries.
