The Provincial Government will soon be opening its doors to Nortehanon Agriculture students through a new scholarship opportunity - the ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฏ๐ข๐ง๐๐ข๐๐ฅ ๐๐จ๐ฏ๐๐ซ๐ง๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ญ ๐จ๐ ๐๐จ๐ซ๐ญ๐ก๐๐ซ๐ง ๐๐๐ฆ๐๐ซ ๐๐ ๐ซ๐ข๐๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ ๐๐๐ก๐จ๐ฅ๐๐ซ๐ฌ๐ก๐ข๐ฉ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ ๐ซ๐๐ฆ (๐๐๐๐โ๐๐๐), another milestone for the province.
Under Sangguniang Panlalawigan Ordinance No. 08, Series of 2025 which created the PGNS ASP, the Provincial Government will be providing financial assistance for the study of indigent and deserving Nortehanon youth who wish to pursue a degree in agriculture, while also helping increase agricultural productivity in the province. In return, the scholars will need to practice agriculture within Northern Samar or engage in agri-enterpreneurship immediately after completing their program under an Agri-Enterpreneurship Commitment Agreement with the Provincial Government.
Based on the Ordinance and the approved Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) which lays down the eligibility criteria, scholarship benefits, retention and termination policies, qualified to apply for the scholarship program are indigent Agriculture students from Northern Samar, with good moral character, physically and mentally fit, not more than 35 years old upon application, with full load of subjects in every school year, and from a family of farmers, as certified under the Registry System of Basic Sector in Agriculture (RSBA).
The PGNSโASP reflects Governor Harris Ongchuan and the Provincial Governmentโs strong commitment to invest in education and agriculture, empowering young Nortehanons to become future agri-leaders and driving forces of a food-secure and resilient Northern Samar.
Passed during the term of then Governor Edwin Ongchuan from a proposal of Provincial Agriculturist Dr. Jose Luis Acompanado, the program will soon be admitting its first batch of scholars under the guidance of incumbent Governor Harris who sits as chair of the PGNS ASP Board.
Unanimously approved by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan last year, the Ordinance was sponsored by Board Member Leonida Laodenio, Chair of the SP Committee on Agriculture, and co-sponsored by Board Members Don Abalon and Marites Gillamac.
Watch out for the next updates on the program!
