PAF NEWS | PAF-PACAF Kicks Off Cope Thunder 26-1 at Clark Air Base

CLARK AIR BASE, Pampanga – The Philippine Air Force (PAF) officially opened this year’s iteration of Exercise Cope Thunder 26-1 during a ceremony held on April 6, 2026. Major General Dennis G Estrella PAF, Commander, Air Logistics Command, graced the event as the Guest of Honor.

The bilateral exercise, scheduled to run from April 6 to 17, 2026, will involve approximately 2800 PAF and PACAF participants in various Northern Luzon areas with Brigadier General Angelito R Retuta PAF, leading the PAF, and Brigadier General Philip L Mallory USAF, PACAF, for US, PACAF. A key, high-intensity highlight of the exercise involves an aerial engagement between the PAF’s FA-50 fighter jet and the PACAF’s F-22 Raptor, testing tactical agility.

Building on a long-standing defense alliance, Cope Thunder 26-1 is designed to strengthen interoperability between the PAF and PACAF. The training underscores a shared commitment to promoting regional security and fostering deeper cooperation through high-intensity aerial maneuvers and tactical exchange.

Major General Estrella emphasized that this iteration serves as a vital platform for refining the PAF’s operational capabilities and ensuring a collective readiness to maintain peace and stability in the region.
