A former ISU student who prioritized marketing over her education, suffered failing classes and received the lowest grades, is now a registered nurse. Numerous people were impacted by this life-changing tale of persistence, courage, and will.
"Dang" Dianne Angel M. Concepcion, a former food vendor who proudly shared her journey to becoming a board passer despite being a self-supporting student and coming from a divorced home, shared her story with tears.
"Una po sa lahat, ako po 'yong estudyante na inuunang magbenta," Dianne spoke in her introductory speech during the Nurse Licensure Examination passers' recognition and testimonial program, which happened on Monday, December 5 at the ISUE Climate Change Hall.
Dianne sells a variety of snacks, including lumpiang sariwa, carbonara, cake, and graham crackers, which she posts online for pre-order, delivers on a specific date, and even offers to her classmates and clinical instructors while she is still in school or performing hospital duties.
Dianne admitted that she frequently put her schoolwork at risk in order to meet her needs and pay her RLE fees.
During their final exam, the clinical instructor gave them a duration of 1 hour and 30 minutes, but she finished it in only 26 minutes. Later that day, the professor called and asked in confusion, "Bakit ang bilis mong mag-exam?" and even posed for a remedial exam. The audience laughed and applauded simultaneously as Dang responded, "Ma'am, nagdedeliver po kasi ako," in a funny and shaken voice.
She had thought about quitting her dream, but she always reminds herself that sacrifice and perseverance are the keys to her success.
"Sabi ko titigil muna akong mag-aral, lagi kong nireremind โyong sarili ko na โonti na lang, magpupursige akong magbenta. Paano ba naman kasi, wala na ngang pambayad, ang bababa pa ng mga scores ko. Minsan lowest, minsan bagsak," she sobbingly shared.
She made it to graduation despite the tears and sweat, with the help of God Almighty and with a special thanks to her "suki."
When she said, "Sa awa ng Diyos, hanggang matapos 'yong 4th year ko, kumpleto grades ko,... fully paid na rin RLE ko," the audience cheered loudly and shed a tear.
Dianne did not live with her biological parents, but she never felt abandoned in this chaotic world especially with the help she received from her grandmother and aunt, even when her mother was suffering from cervical cancer abroad. "Kahit gaano man kahirap ang buhay, huwag kayong susuko, walang ibang makakatulong sa atin kung hindi ang sarili natin," she said.
After receiving her degree, she applied at an online review center and set aside 7 hours per day for study, beginning at 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. She never forgot to turn to God for direction throughout those trying times. She uttered, "Nagmamakaawa talaga ako sa kanya na 'Lord kahit hindi mo binigay sa akin 'yong buong pamilya, kahit 'yong pangarap ko na lang po."
God listened to her prayers on results day. The two letters "R" and "N" were eventually added after her name. Her perseverance and hard work paid off when her name appeared last week, on November 29,2022, on the list of names of the 2022 Philippine Nursing Licensure Examination passers.
She thanked those who had contributed to her success and the institution that had helped her achieve her dreams at the conclusion of her speech. "Salamat po, Isabela State University, salamat po, College of Nursing! Agyaman nak dagidyay CI ko, thank you po!" she expressed.
As of the moment, Dianne Angel Marzan Concepcion, RN, is currently working at Callang General Hospital and Medical Center Inc. and exemplifies the dedication and care that Isabela State University has fostered.
